(Apologies from a newbie)

Unfortunately, I've been experiencing the books out of order--trying to rectify that. Just read Haunted Air but--though I know we meet Lyle & Charlie in (at least one) later book, I can't remember which one. The chronology has Haunted Air connected only with Reprisal, & I don't even know what that is.

Pls forgive me for asking such an obvious question.

I haven't been watching many films of late and the few I have, haven't inspired me to watch more(been watching a lot of TV on DVD-Battlestar Galactica, Californication, Flight of the Conchords, Young Indiana Jones)so I'm pleased to share The Escapist with you. This is a must if you enjoy prison movies and even if you don't, it is worth a look. Brian Cox plays a lifer who wants to escape to see his sick daughter so he recruits a crew to help him bust out. I dug how the director used flashbacks to tell the story, it really heightened the tension. It is not quite on par with other classic prison movies, but it certainly should be considered among the top 10.

HI.
I am new to this forum lark but I thought what the hell.Excellent series of books, both the Adversary Cycle and the Repairman Jack novels.
Ive just finished By The Sword and have started reading Black Wind and I was just musing over whether or not the Kakureta Kao were ever a real religious movement in old Japan or were they entirelly a figment of FPW imagination. The authors notes at the start of the book imply that the Kakureto Kao were once in existence but I can not find any reference to it on the all knowing internet. If anyone knows the answer could you let us know.
Thanks

Wild Things--More a psychological study in uncontrolled emotions (get it, "wild things"?), this movie takes us inside the head of a young boy with family problems. What transpires is a manifestation of his thoughts into huge creatures, each representing an emotion, on an island, representing his imaginary landscape. Sometimes funny, sometimes scary, these creatures may be cute-looking in the trailers, but they may be frightening for the young ones. Great cast of voices (Catherine O'Hara is great as always) makes this movie a winner for people who like their movies layered with meaning. But be forewarned: This is not Sesame Street.

Saw VI--I love the Saw series/franchise. One every Halloween, like clockwork. This latest installment expands the mythos of the previous five movies. Questions left unanswered in the previous movies are addressed here, but more questions arise. Only fans of the series need see this entry. All others will be lost. Definitely not a stand-alone.

Astro Boy--Never read the comic. Never saw the tv show. So, all I had to go by was the movie itself. Great origin story. Sorta like Frankenstein with a happy ending. Not a comedy, though some characters are silly (the Robot Revolutionary Front, a Monty Pythonesque trio of robots). Action scenes are above par, but Astro's story is what made the movie work for me.

AC

P.S. The Stepfather--Wait for the rental. Then don't rent it.

A few weeks ago i wrote a post about the seeming lack of security cameras in a major New York City hospital in By The Sword-well im feeling a little sheepish right about now as recently in a major Boston hospital a patient went crazy and started stabbing a doctor-an off duty security guard who happened to be visiting the hospital at this time saw what was going on-he then proceeded to pull out his registered handgun mortallly wounding the assailant and saving the doctors life-why is this a relevant story? This all went on without one security camera recording the incident!!Sorry Paul!

Dunno what the etiquette is here for new members, but in case an intro is required, here goes. Info is presented in random bullet points as I think of them. Let the incoherent rambling commence........

- 36yo male, living in Canberra, Australia. Married to a lovely NYC lady who posts here as "Al Ramos". God knows what she sees in me. Weird Americans.....

- Got into FPW around 2007, after buying a copy of 'The Keep' in NYC. I was very reluctant to read any RJ novels, because I bloody hate 'series' with a passion. I can't think of any other series where I haven't tired of the charcters/formula by the middle of the second book. That Rj is still a compelling tale all these books later is a wonderful tribute to FPW's concise, non-wanky writing style.

I particularly enjoy the way the supernatural elements are kept ambiguous enough so they stay menacing rather than silly.

- Politically, if anyone cares, I'm a libertarian. I have a blog that FPW linked to once on his twitter page. Assuming it was actually him of course.

- I spend my non-reading spare time riding motorcycles and getting death threats from 9/11 'truther' idiots. The latter is due to my winning personality I guess.

- FPW books are damned near impossible to find here. I bought all of mine while in NYC, or off the web. Just ordered 'Ground Zero', 'The Touch' and 'Reborn'. Thank gawd for the internet and overseas holidays.

- I'm probably alone on this, but I don't want to see any RJ novels made into movies. I don't want to see anyone else's visualisation of a Rakosh, Kusum, Kolabati or - god help us all - another 'Orangutang Darth Vader' version of Rasalom.

I would love to see a film version of Mauricio though Big Grin

- Re. the movie 'The Keep' - as a Michael Mann fanboy this is very painful for me to think about. Christ, what a mess.

- When I'm reading RJ novels, I'll often ask the missus about a NYC location, ie. "so, does this place exist? Have I been to it?". I think having seen NYC has greatly added to my enjoyment of the novels. A pity there's no real Julios. Sounds like my kinda place.

Anyway, enough from me.

Cheers,
Tex

This should be interesting - a remake of Red Dawn.

Looks like it will at least have a political update. Karen DeCoster posted some pics on LRC from the filming that is currently happening in downtown Detroit:

I'm blanking on a title for RJ-14. Same deal as with Harbingers and By the Sword: if I choose your title, you get credit and free copies of every state.

What I can tell you (these aren't spoilers - they'll be in the flap copy):The Order thinks it can harm/kill the Lady by bringing down the Internet (because her death will give R a clear field to bring back the Otherness). It's developing a super virus to do this. Also, Dawn finally gives birth and something's very wrong with the baby.

So...something apocalyptic that can suggest some or all of this will fill the bill.

I'm going to need some help preparing out-of-print titles for Kindle and other formats. Any volunteers? I believe it will require some modest HTML skills. PM me if interested.

The first was a cult classic. One of my favorites, the second looks decent, we'll see.
