I just saw Casablanca for the first time. Aside from some technical difficulties between my DVD player and a fairly scratched up NetFlix disc, I have got to say that this is damn near a perfect movie. Acting, characters, story, photography are all stellar. And Bogey is the man!!!

Hey Guys & Gals,

Just a quick poll, when you get FPW to sign your books, do you get him to personalize it, or just sign it? Just wondering.

I just got back from seeing this. Superior to Independence Day and far superior to Godzilla, The Day After Tomorrow is a well crafted and fun movie. This is the first time in a long time Emmerich has created characters you actually care about. Yes, an ice age sets in in just under a week but minus the fact that the movie accelerates global events it is all based on fact.

The other nice thing was it had a message. Luckily, just when you think the message is going to become overtly preachy it doesn't. The film makes its point while on a rollercoaster with nice visuals. The Day After Tomorrow is better then your average summer popcorn disaster movie and well worth checking out.

And for all the people criticizing the movie saying that the events portrayed in the movie couldn't happen this quickly, the movie actually does address this by having a character state that these events shouldn't be happening as quickly as they are. Just sit back, relax and enjoy.

Who is/was the best classic horror movie actor?

Note: By "Classic" I mean those known to those who, like me, are "Too old to rock 'n' roll; too young to die". Smile

Over the weekend I finally watched this film. Being a fan of the first one it's a shame the sequel turned out so bad. Unlike the first film, BR2 tackles the large cast like a meat packing plant. Both films have 40+ students that are forced to battle each other to the death for a reality television show (also part of a new government amended Act). The first film, even though students are picked off from the get-go you still had some sense of who these characters were. The second one has none of that: people just start dying and you have no sympathy for any of them.

The second film also has two actors that are so over the top it is laughable. Sensai (played by Riki Takeuchi) is like a clown walking on a tightrope while trying to be as menacing as an angry poodle. Sensai in the first movie (played by Takeshi Kitano) was much more menacing by his subtilty.

The first movie had a good political message which seems to be lost in the second one (or maybe just thrown out). During filming of BR2 the director (Kinji Fukasaku, who also directed the first movie) died.

If you have the opportunity to see the first movie do so. Skip the second one. It's a waste.

Anyone else see this? It's a made for cable movie (hmm, HBO, Showtime? It all blends together), about the first ever heart surgery. I watched it last night, thought it was incredible.

I donated a copy of the Gauntlet THA (signed it a 2nd time) to the Charles Grant benefit auction (he's got COPD and is in bad shape; probably will never write again). I checked to see how it was going this AM and it's up to $125+. Yow. I'm shocked. I figured $70-75 tops.

The take-home from this: Those of you who have copies of THA, hold onto them and keep them in good shape.

Girl with a Pearl Earring.

Every shot looks like a Vermeer painting. Stunning. And the story's not bad either.
