Alec Baldwin. Not that he was ever terrible, but he has become a thoroughly watchable performer. I loved him in State and Main and The Cooler, and he was outstanding in The Last Shot, which I watched last night. TLS is based on actual events where an FBI agent (Baldwin) poses as a film producer in order to nail some mobsters for racketeering. It also stars Matthew Broderick and a solid supporting cast, led by the always funny Joan Cusack. TLS is lightweight fun and it has one the cooler title sequences I've seen.

My daughter forced me to take her to Sin City this weekend.I didn't expect much of the film which is perhaps why I enjoyed it.
The film genre was much like a "dime store paperback" being turned into a movie..and it worked.
Lots of action -- fun to watch -- no real theme or moral statement to be made.
Any one else out there watch the film?

ShadowLord
(Did I hear it was based on comic books?)

(ack ok I see there is alredy a thread for sin city on page 2 -- can someone with admin powers move this to the appropriate thread.. Thanks)

Has anyone seen this Japanese movie? The title is "Teito monogatari", English title is Doomed Megalopolis. Last night I saw this movie on rental video. Actually, I've never seen it before. But when I saw it, I was surprised. It was made in 1988. Also Black Wind was published in 1988. I don't know why, but I thought this movie is very similar to Black Wind. Genres are war+horror+sci-fi+action+occult.

I think it's coincidence, but if you have opportunity, check this movie, and compare them. It's excellent movie. You'll like it.

Just now, I received three books. Diagnosis:Terminal, Nightkill, and Masque. Bluesman Mike sent them to me. Thank you, Mike. And especially thank you FPW. Smile

Still, I'm reading GATEWAYS, but next books are waiting. Crisscross, Midnight Mass, The Fifth Harmonic, Soft and Others(from Scott), and Diagnosis:Terminal, Nightkill, Masque......Oh, these days I don't read Japanese edition's novels. :p

If this is your case, what do you read? What is your next recommendation?

I'm afraid i loaned my collection to a friend and yet to see any of it in a month. Sigh. I wonder if anyone can help me. How old is Jack? I think he's in his mid 30s/40s but I’m not sure.

Thanks.

And they are even based in Monroe!

I'm currently re-reading Reborn and something caught my attention. Gerry (the reporter) mentions that the editor at The Light mysteriously died years before. I don't remember if this has been referenced in any pre- or post-Reborn book.

Anyone know how the editor died? Am I forgetting something?

I bought Japanese edition's BLACK WIND(Vol.1&2)--First edition--, today. This is rare book(s) and rarely can find out them in book stores. Even in used book stores. It was a mere chance that I found them. Fortunately they were inexpensive, so I bought them. I can't remember but I heard somebody want to get them. Hmm....who was that?

Maybe this is a last chance. If somebody has been looking for this, let me know in this thread or PM. I send them to first one person. Wink

Didja know that there are two versions of the Kingdom of Heaven movie trailer? Yep, there's the one with the classical/choir music in the background, and then there's the one with the Speed Metal music in the background. I'm pretty sure that the true movie soundtrack is the classical version, but that Metal version sure gives one pause....

I've always liked the Repairman Jack character and have read all the novels but number 7, but never really got into the supernatural aspect very much because I just couldn't "suspend disbelief" quite that far.

I just liked the character. Repairman Jack. If there is a problem, he'll fix it. He'll take care of the bad guys.

Anyway, I just finished CrissCross and felt it was the best of the bunch. It was very quick reading and when it started getting into the "hocus-pocus" aspects, it didn't lose its way and have unbelievable supernatural events like....(edited out)...

Jack was mostly just Repairman Jack. So I liked it best.
