I don't know if anyone followed this or if it has already been discussed. Paul Schrader was originally the director of the Exorcist prequel. Apparently someone thought the final version didn't meet up to present day horror standards (blood, gore, no suspense, Japanese kids Wink, etc.), so they canned him, hired a new director (Renny Harlin), and reshot the entire movie. The result was the pile of crap (going by heresay, I've never seen it) that is Exorcist: The Beginning.

Well now the original Schrader movie is being released as Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist. Critics (well Roger Ebert, so far) seemed to like this version and uses such words to describe it as atmosphere and dread, which used to refer to horror movies but have lately been replaced by blood and gore and surprise. I'm very interested to see if this new version is received well by the masses. It seems to have only gotten a limited release so far.

I actually found FPW's main website first, while I was searching for new books and new authors. So I haven't read any of these yet, but I can tell already they're exactly what I like to read. After bouncing around the main website, I clicked over to the forums and have spent a good hour reading around!

I just can't believe I've never heard of this set before! At any rate, I thought I'd post up even tho I haven't read any of the RJ novels yet. I'll take care of that shortly! LOL

I'm Lisa, married to a military guy with two kids... we're all avid readers and movie watchers. I live in South Carolina currently w/ the kids, but my husband has orders to Hawaii, so we're preparing to move there within the next 8 weeks!

Tagline contest for the Isher Sports Shop shirt...

The prize: an ARC of INFERNAL.

The goal: something short and pithy for the back of the shirt.

Something like:

COME IN AND
HAVE A BLAST

(I know you folks can do better than that.)

We'll give this a week to allow everyone a chance.

I don't remember a thread for this movie so forgive me if it has already been done.

I had heard some bad reviews for this movie but didn't find it to be bad at all. I thought it was supposed to be about EVP's but centered more toward the TV/white noise ghost videos- which was hoaky- but good for some scares and plot details. There are a number of details on the videos that tie things together, so if you don't pay attention you won't catch the twists coming. The most disappointing thing was the "bad guys" or whatever they should be called and the loss of explanation as to their ability to interact with the living. Not the ending I expected either, which was a nice turn. I was hoping for a more realistic feel to the movie but it was just the standard scary flick. Not bad though.

I'd like to hear Lisa's review on this one.

Marc B. Wrote:!!!SPOILERS!!!

I forgot to mention the scene where the Clones turn on the Jedi. Also very well done.
Yes, it was, though I was slightly disappointed that Anakin didn't do more of the killing.

Marc B. Wrote:As for being "necessarily" long (and I know you're talking about the end but with a little trimming throughout it wouldn't have been long), I disagree. There was NO need for it to be that long. The Wookie battle wasn't needed, a lot of the romance could (and should) have been trimmed, and the final scene with Luke and Leia could easily have gone. If the scene worked better, actually gave us an emotional reaction, then it works. I felt nothing (maybe it was the "NOOO!!!" that did it).
Yeah, I was referring to just the ending. And he probably could have edited a little from ACT II (the love-story stuff, etc) though not as much as you probably think he could have. Wink

The Wookie scene was there only (IMO) to explain why Yoda was away from the rest of the Jedi and the majority of the clones. I'm not sure you could delete the Luke & Leia scene (the actual birth and naming scene?), but that's a matter of taste, I guess. The NOOO!!! was a little .... weak... I'll give you that. Not that he said it, but the enunciation of the word. Lucas should have picked a different soundbite.

Marc B. Wrote:Oh... and the scene with, "You were the Chosen One!" wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. In the trailer it looked horrible... in the film, in context, it was fine.
!!!END SPOILERS!!!
I thought this whole scene was AWESOME! The "Chosen One" line didn't give me as much pause as other people, but I thought it was absolutely fine in the movie as part of the much bigger dialogue.
