Takashi Miike strikes again. It is disturbing, funny, unique, and visually arresting. I had never heard of it before renting it and was quite surprised to find out that it seems to be a television series. After being comletely lost for about 1/2 hour, some answers began revealing themselves and then the credits started rolling. I then did a quick search, found out there are three volumes each containing 2 episodes and that it is based on a Manga comic.
I can't wait to see the other two volumes and am curious about the comic. This is not for the faint of heart, the murders are incredibly grisly.

Kenji I was wondering if you know anything about this show. Is/was it aired on TV?

Anyone seen "Hostage"? I can't see it yet. We can see it next week. I saw trailer. It's looks like Die Hard.

Last week, Bruce Wiilis visited to Tokyo for publicity. This is Japan Preview's film.

Malevolence was a movie I was really looking forward to seeing. Unfortunately, the full 90 minutes lacks any real scares and is about as original as a Disney cartoon.

Synopsis from Netflix: A deranged serial killer targets brazen bank robbers in this bloody horror flick staring Brandon Johnson, Heather Magee, Richard Glover and Samantha Dark. After a botched bank heist, a gang of criminals takes a young mother and daughter hostage, holing up in what they think is a deserted farmhouse. But the police are the least of the crooks' worries as the murderous madman in residence begins exterminating his unwanted guests.

So what does this film have going for it? A group of young actors that have potential but are somewhat lacking in experience. Generally, the actors do a decent job.

And that's about all. There is no creative fiber in this picture at all. It looks more like a fourth rate Halloween, one that probably shouldn't have been made. The music is atrocious and sounds like it belongs in a late 70's or early 80's horror film. The film isn't all that bloody nor are there any real scares. If you've seen any horror film in the past thirty years you know what's coming.

If the filmmakers had decided to go with a faceless killer I would give this film a little more respect, but the reveal of who the killer is is pointless, stupid and lacks no motivation. You're left scratching your head.

If you want to revisit a classic horror film in a contemporary setting then give Malevolence a try. For everyone else avoid this lackluster attempt at horror.

I'm surprised Medusa hasn't started this thread yet. :p

I wasn't addicted to this show like some of you were. I only caught a few episodes. I did get a chance to see the show they played a couple of weeks ago that recapped the season, and got intriqued by it, so I watched the Finale last night.

WOW!! That was cool. I am going to have to catch all these episodes in reruns over the summer.

Begin discussion below:

At last, this weekend, "Million Dollar Baby" is released in Japan! I've been waiting for this day.
I'm Clint Eastwood fan. I saw all of his movies, except "Bridge of Madison County".

Last month, Clint Eastwood visited to Japan for publicity. This is his interview in Japan.

And, this week, Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman visited to Japan for publicity. I can't beliebe it....Morgan Freeman visited to Japan! Whoa!

Well, anyway, after I saw this movie, I intend to talk about my thoughts...three days later!

I just got an email from Borderlands that a new limited edition of Black Wind will be published. There will be only 350 numbered and 26 lettered copies.

Well the title says it all and there are a ton of movies and series we can all list..

Guess I get to start off with two series that I really enjoyed watching, both were BBC productions that are TOP NOTCH historical drama pieces.

A) The Horatio Hornblower series -- I watched them all on A&E and just LOVED them -- I couldnt wait for addtional shows to come out and they did. Great acting, great action and really well filmed. I think this set of movies will be my next major BOX SET PURCHASE. ( I actually enjoyed the series more then Master and Commander).
Never read the books.
B) The Richard Sharpe series set during the Napoleonic War era. I read all the books long before the movies/tv series came out and thinky they did a great job tansferring it to the screen.

Ok there you have just two series of movies I really enjoyed and things others would like to watch.. Go ahead and post a few of your own.

I went to Barnes and Noble's in State College, PA the other day to pick up Gateways. I was looking for it in hardcover but it was backordered and unavailable. The clerk, staring at the computer screen, then proceeded to tell me the problem was it was probably coming out in paperback soon. Was the clerk right. I hate now being able to read it. I wanted to get back into the whole RJ mind frame.

Thanx,
Myk Rolleyes
