The Freak Show is by far the most unusual I own - it's too big to fit on the scanner at 14 inches tall. I can't display the thing on my bookcase and have to lay it flat it's so big!!

Paul - I have the orange Sims proof as well - why do two versions exist? I know one is a manuscript and one is a proof but apart from that......
Why is this your only(?) book with two versions from the same company?

cheers
Steve

Hello,

I'm digging into HOSTS now, my fifth RJ novel, and there are a couple of characters in it that feel like they have history with Jack that may be chronicled elsewhere.

Stan & Joe Kozlowski are a pair of arsonists who, it seems, have been thwarted in the past by Jack. There is a vague synopsis of what happened between them, but it feels like there is more in another novel somewhere.

Can anyone tell me if these characters, and their run-in with Jack, is in another novel somewhere?

Maggers mentioned this on another thread and I thought it was worth pursuing. In her words:

Maggers Wrote:A films-that-I-could-not-bear-list would be movies that I acknowledge are well done, well directed, perhaps even very well acted and written, but just did not click with me- in a big way.

Here's my list:

1. THE MATRIX. That's right, I said THE MATRIX. A movie that managed to be boring, confusing, pretentious, corny, embarrassing, and highly fucking unlikely--all at the same time.

2. THE ENGLISH PATIENT. I was actually angry that I sat through the whole thing. Dull and duller.

3. AFFLICTION. Nothing "wrong" with this one. Acting, writing, directing are all excellent. But it is deliberate, disturbing, and harrowlingly realistic. So much so that it ceases to be entertainment and becomes difficult or impossible to watch more than once.

4. TITANIC. "Rose!" "Jack!" "Rose!" "Jack!" Rolleyes

5. MOULIN ROUGE. This film gave me motion sickness. I'm not kidding.

6. MEET JOE BLACK. I almost killed myself after I watched this, just so I wouldn't have to "meet Joe Black" before I die. Most boring romance EVER.

7. FALLEN. Way overrated. All the plot elements were done before and better. And the ending is dumb.

8. DANGEROUS LIAISONS. I just can't get into John Malkovich and Glenn Close as desirable lovers. Sorry.

9. STEPMOM. Why does anyone like this movie? I don't understaaaaaaaaaand. (That was in my best "stepwhine" voice.)

10. THE PILLOW BOOK. Huh? Wha?? Ummmm. Peter Greenaway is a weirdo.

I was simply wondering what you guys thought of Reborn. I just finished reading it. I don't want to be offensive to anyone here on the board, but I have to say it was the first FPW book I didn't really enjoy reading. It may have simply been the subject matter, but I just didn't like it that much. I understand that it was imperative for the continuing story - especially the end. Is the rest of the Adversary Cycle a more enjoyable read? I have read The Keep, The Tomb, The Touch, and The Fifth Harmonic and enjoyed them all (although The Fifth Harmonic wasn't really my style). I hope this doesn't step on any toes, but I was just curious....

I bought Babylon 5 collectors box DVD, 1st season. This is from 1993 in US, but I've never seen this on TV or rental video. Finally DVD box was released in Japan, so I bought it.

The show is pretty good. Visual and sound are high quality. But almost episodes are dark. Always murder cases happen in station. Anyway now I'm enjoying it.

I don't have a great deal of medical knowledge so I'm wondering about a few things about spinal taps like the one little Hector Lopez had to endure as described in Legacies (pg. 216):

1. Why is it the patient needs to be awake without anything to numb the pain of a needle being injected into your lower spine?

2. If your spinal fluid is hazy, what does this mean? What colour should it be?

3. Couldn't this procedure potiential cripple a patient?

I saw "Madagascar" last night with a group of adults and children. Everybody loved it. It is adorable and laugh out loud funny. The animation is terrific. Every hair on Alex The Lion's head moves independently; would that my hair moved that way. The animal crowd scenes in the jungle are visually hysterical. There are several well done, unexpected homages to other films, and NYC is so accurately depicted, it's quite amazing.

The best kick of all is Sacher Baron Cohen, aka Ali G, as the voice of Julien, the king lemur. He's a riot.

Check it out. Your kids and grandkids will love it, and you'll enjoy it, too.

I would choose:

Jack - Hugh Jackman
Gia - Anne Heche
Vicky - ?
Nellie - Gloria Stuart
Kusum - ?
Kolibati - Parminder Nagra (Bend it Like Beckham)
Julio - Tom Sizemore
Abe - Meatloaf
