I'll put this in TV and Film Discussion since there's some reference to the movies, but for now this is more about the book version of Psycho II.

Also, consider this a Psycho-related SPOILER WARNING! I want to be able to talk about everything here.

Now... has anyone else read Robert Bloch's Psycho II? I picked it up on a whim at the used bookstore. I'm now around 120 pages into it or so, and I'm wondering if it's worth bothering to finish it. I'm really, really disappointed. I've never read a Bloch book in my life, but I can't yet honestly see why I should bother with another one.

First off, I notice that the film version of Psycho II is a completely different story. It's not based on the book at all. The strange part is that, for me, the movie is much, much better, and I can see why they didn't base it on the book. The film has Norman as a sympathetic character who is "cured", set free, then essentially pushed over the edge by someone who knows all the right buttons to hit. The movie's not great, but I do find the premise interesting (the psychotic killer is not the bad guy).

The book, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have anywhere near the promise of the movie's plot. It also has Norman "cured" (in the sense that he no longer suffers from being taken over by "Mother"), but he escapes from the mental hospital and goes on a killing spree anyway. He's not even remotely sympathetic or even interesting. He's just a murderous nut job. His line of thinking essentially breaks down to "I'm not crazy anymore, but I'm going to kill people left and right anyway!" And it's boring the crap out of me.

Is anyone here a fan of Bloch? Does anyone want to point out the merits of this book? Should this be one I add to our thread about unfinished books?

Oh, and feel free to spoil everything in the book even though I haven't finished it. At this point, I'm far past caring.

You knew it was gonna happen folks, (and you probably knew it would be me doing it) but it's time for a critique on this flick! Big Grin

First off, I shunned about everything I could by way of spoilers,ads,articles, trailers,etc., so I could keep an open mind. (well as open as my mind gets!)
Just before the movie they showed a behind the scences blurb about, you gussed it, The Dukes Of Hazzard and how it was made! Needless to say I was pissed! I even made the comment, we should leave now because we just watched the best parts of the movie! Luckily, cooler heads prevailed. That and we had already spent almost enough money to fill up the car!

Well I didn't go into this movie expecting great acting, I went for nostalgia. And loved it! It was great way to spend a saturday afternoon. Some great car chase scenes and to see the General Lee Flying again, bliss! I will say Boss Hogg and Roscoe are a bit meaner and nastier than in the series, but it worked well in the movie. Gave a great dark side. Bo was a bit dumber and crazier than I remeberd and Luke was not as resourceful. Daisey was hotter, if that's possible and Jessie finally says it like it is!

Go into the movie with an attitude of just having fun and you'l walk away with a smile!

Just now I watched this trailer. While I'm watching trailer, many times I said "Wow!". Charlize Theron is cool! Check it.

Anyone else watching this series on FX?

I thought it started off a little too fast and didn't give you much background on the charecters in the show, but now that 4 episodes are out, I've really grown to like it and am finding myself starting to feel sorry for a few of the people in it (especially Eddy).

Overall, great series dealing with the war in Iraq. It takes a fairly neutral viewpoint on the war and mainly deals with the soldiers and their families. Nothing real political.

This is about a 60's London gangster named Charlie Richardson. I've never heard of the guy so I don't know how "accurate" this flick may be. The previews I'd seen looked interesting so I gave it a shot last night...and wished I'd saved my cash. The violence can be pretty brutal at times and Luke Goss is good in the lead role, but overall the film was kind of boring. In the hands of a different director it may have been a good film. In case you haven't heard of Luke Goss he played Nomak in Blade II and was part of the pop group Bros. Seems to be a good actor, though.

If you've thought about renting this one save your hard earned money. If you want a good thug flick try Chopper with Eric Bana. He was great in that film.

Ok for about 4 years I just avoided this show..I would come across it while channel surfing and just keep moving along.. then about 3 months ago I got stuck watching and entire episode..as luck would have it there were two episodes back to back..

Now my kids and I are addicted to it. At first I couldn't watch the show because I just dont like stupidity and thats exactly what the 3 main characters are STUPID .

However after watching it a few times I really began to appreciate the humour they were drumming up..

It is definately one of those shows you will either love or hate. I gave it the chance and have to admit it really is well done..

Showcase on thurs ..is when its on for me and I would recommend you give it a chance.. watch at least two episodes so you can learn a little of the characters and appreciate whats going on.

FF=2

Even though it has a lower FF, not as good as Zatoichi. But the storyline made so little sense that my finger stayed off the button in the hope that it might become coherent. It didn't.

FF=3

A pretty cool film but stuffed with fluff. (Would you believe it closes with a long production number?) The blood splatters struck me as odd looking, so I watched one frame at a time and they're all CGI.
