Today I went to theater see "Fantastic Four".

I know it was already released in U.S., but nobody mentioned about this movie. Nobody likes this movie? I like it very much. One of the reasons is...Jessica Alba! Big Grin

BTW, last week, Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis, Chris Evans, they visited to Japan.
Check their interview.↓ Cool

Robert Wise, who won four Oscars as producer and director of the classic 1960s musicals "West Side Story" and "The Sound of Music," has died. He was 91.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...00066.html

He made a lot of wonderful films. "The Curse of the Cat People", "Day the Earth stood still", "The Haunting", "The Andromeda Strain", "Audrey Rose", and "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"........etc.

RIP. Sad

What's your favorite in his movies? If I choose one, I'll pick "Day the Earth stood still".

I'll be on Nantucket the next two weeks. I need to take some guy films along (for the sons-in-law and me). Any suggestions?

Almost 3.5 hours. Yow. There aren't many folks who like a conspiracy theory more than I (e.g., Conpiracies), but this was looooong. Compelling, though, even if the film places the entire blame on the wrong shoulders: the military-industrial complex.

According to Stone, the MIC wanted Kennedy dead because he was going to pull every American soldier and advisor out of Nam, thus depriving the MIC of all those contracts. This is a fiction concocted by the post-assassination canonizers of JFK who want to hide the fact that he was a devout anticommunist.

Bear with me while I copy here a paragraph that Arthur M. Schlesinger deleted from his coverage of Kennedy's 9/10/63 news conference in his book, A Thousand Days:

"We want the war to be won, the communists contained, and the Americans to go home. That is our policy. I am sure it is the policy of Vietnam. But we are not there to see a war lost, and we will follow the policy which I've indicated today in advancing those causes and issues which help win the war."

That's 10 weeks before his assassination. Does that sound like a man who's going to toss the Vietnam war in the dumpster?

Lastly, I think it was cowardly of Stone (or perhaps got in the way of his agenda) to ignore the mob's involvement in the assassination. If you want to read a gripping, unflinching, meticulously researched novel that considers all aspects of the plot -- including the mob and even Howard Hughes -- pick up James Ellroy's American Tabloid. By comparison the Stone film is a pallid, timid invertebrate.

FF= 1 (I FF'd through 20 minutes in the 2nd half, but that's only 10% of the running time, thus the good score)

This evening, I went to theater see "Stir of Echoes". Japanese title is "Echoes". It was very very.....GOOD!!! I liked it.

Actually, before I see this movie, I didn't know it was based on Richard Matheson's novel. I want to read this book, but it's now out of print.

Movie was.....well, synthetically it reminded me of Sixth Sense. Some of the scenes (Short flashback, red color, whispers) were very effective and disturbing. As usual, Kevin Bacon's acting was excellent.

By the way, at the basement scenes, it reminded me of my favorite RJ novel. You know it, of course. Wink Big Grin

Is the Tomb Mass market from Tor going to Out-of-print status? B&N.com says no new copies available and Amazon says 1 to 3 weeks delivery - which I assume means none in their inventory.

Anyone know if its headed for an out-of -print status all together or perhaps a new edition is coming out?

Thanks

Mike

For a second at the beginning I thought this was going to be essentially the same plot as another movie with the same title, but there weren't any guys having sex with Elias Koteas (that one really through me for a loop at 16). It's about these six sets of people and how all their lives interweave in, I suppose, a 48 hour period. Don Cheadle is excellent as usual, but so is everybody in this movie, including (shockingly) Ludacris. I mean, this director really knows how to get everything out of you. Even Brendan Fraser came off like a real actor (but I think this may be in large part to his character being severely marginalized in the movie).

I don't want to give anything away, but the plot is largely character driven. You really get to see how what's on the surface of these characters is not all there is to them. Watch it and you'll see what I mean.

Full of twists and turns and an interesting plot. The only problem for me is I only understood like 2 people- O'Brien from Star Trek and Broots from Carnivale. I don't know- I wish these guys would learn the language already.

New Hollywood movie, "SAYURI". This old Japan was made in Hollywood, and it has worth to see. But I'm wondering about one thing. All Japanese are speaking English in this movie. At least, in "The Last Samurai", they were speaking Japanese, not all scenes though. What do you think about Japanese casts speaking English in Japan described by Hollywood movie? Strange? Make a sense?
