Is it any good?

I liked "The Barrens and others", and "Aftershock", this is the only one I need to track down now,

what's everyone's verdict on it? and is the Hardcover hard to find?

The new version is a B-movie enthusiasts dream. Plenty of gore, breasts, humor, and a memorable penis scene to satisfy fans of this stuff. The actors all realize what type of film they are in and deliver solid performances. Richard Dreyfus makes an excellent little cameo to kick things off.

Meh movie about a retiring parole officer whose last case is a southwest Detroiter convicted of arson 8 years before. Had the focus been on Norton instead of De Niro this may have been a better movie. De Niro's performance was fine, it was the character that was terrible. I get why the guy was so blah, he had absolutely no joy to his life. But why would you want to make a movie about such a character. Probably because of the intrigue created at Norton's wife, Jovovich seducing De Niro into a favorable opinion of her husband. But that's such an insignificant part of the movie--it could have been hinted at or told and a better story resulted by the focus being on Norton and his religious transformation. De Niro's character just didn't care about anything and I didn't care about him. This is one of those where the preview implied one thing and the movie gave me another, like Bug. Ugh! Bug.

I just saw this over the weekend. Ryan Reynolds pulls a Tom Hanks as he has the weight of the whole movie on top of him. There are no flashbacks before he got in the box and no scenes with other people except for a brief phone video.

But Reynolds really draws you in and makes you believe he's in there. I liked it. I thought this was going to be in the theater, but probably because he doesn't have the star power yet it didn't make it. They should've waited until after The Green Lantern was released.

Hey all,

sorry to trouble you,

been a while since I read By the sword and ground zero, and now I have Fatal error, and I'm confused about the Kickers and the septimus order, which is which, what their individual goals/motives/part of the story are etc (so far), can anyone give me a quick reminder ? I'm getting a bit confused.

Secondly, having bought the adversary cycle many moons ago in Hardcover, I wondered how many of the paperback reissues are necessary to buy, Ie how many are revised editions?

Many thanks,

Sometime next year, (2012) Pixar Animation Studios is going to release JOHN CARTER OF MARS!

Featuring the voices of:

Taylor Kitsch as John Carter

Lynn Collins as Deja Thoris

and Willem Dafoe as Tars Tarkas

This should be good!

Let me first sat that I have been browsing these forums, and wow, it really seems like a great community and I think its great that FPW himself posts regularly!
Anyways i hope im not starting with a stupid question.

Im starting a new readthrough of secret history books, just reread The Keep. Now, in The Adversary Cycle lists: The Keep, The Tomb, The Touch, Reborn. Secret History Timeline: The Keep then Reborn then The Tomb. Im sure its just a matter of preference, but I want the smoothest path to wrap my mind around all of THE MAN'S storylines as much as I can.

When the Star Wars prequels came out with characters that were not in the original trilogy, I knew that some or most of them would have to die. If you’ve read The Adversary Cycle, and Nightworld already then you know where Jack’s series is ultimately heading to and how it will wrap up. The Repairman Jack series has introduces a slew of characters that need some sort of closure by the end of the last book. Wilson is revising Nightworld, so it’s possible that some of these charecters make their way into that revision, and perhaps even make it through Nightworld, if not, then they must die. That can’t be left hanging out there in limbo (if I remember correctly Julio fate was unknown in the original Nightworld) I have compiled a list of characters that need to be resolved(die) in the next book. PLEASE NOTE – I have not read Fatal Error, I am waiting until summer and for the pool to open. Please don’t spoil Fatal Error for me. Any comments, or characters I’ve left out?

Anybody see this? I'm always a little loathe to gush over an actor's performance in a movie because it comes off as much more important than it is, but I must. Tommy Lee Jones AND Samuel L. Jackson were fantastic in this. I mean nobody even got shot or blew up nothin' and I was rapt for the whole 90 minutes. You already knew TLJ acted good, but SLJ just continues to show if you put the right material in front of him he will knock it out the park.

I have to meet Cormac McCarthy someday. Steal something from him.

Ah, the latest Wes Craven film that came out last year didn't disappoint. Well, it wasn't good in the traditional sense, but I appreciated it for reasons you don't seek out in a horror movie.

The angst-riddled teenagers were actually engaging rather than obnoxious and annoying. I assumed it was just going to be a bunch of whiney kids I couldn't wait to see offed like every other post-pubescent-but-not-quite-an-adult-so-I-don't-know-where-I-fit-in-so-I'm-just-dumb-and-angry type of pseudo-horror film.

The teens actually had charm and I found myself caring about oft-confused am-I-or-am-I-not-a-mass-serial-killer Bug. The dialogue was witty and even the cruel kid Brandon was likeable. Everyone had reason to be what they were, save for the blind kid Jerome (I just knew there would be a reason for him to be blind- WRONG!)

I quickly figured out the killer after the opening scene with the Riverton Ripper getting shot up several times, but still managing to escape police custody. I expected a certain character to make a reprisal and I was pleasantly surprised to be wrong and right at the same time.

No doubt this movie will be forgotten just as quickly as it filters through whatever premium channel picks it up. You'll be up sometime at 3 am for no reason that makes sense, whatsoever and this'll be on some basic cable channel. Might as well watch while you're still awake.
