I'm reading "The Fifth Harmonic" now, and I am loving it. Currently, Will ("Cecil" Smile ) and Maya have made it to the village near the third tine. I gotta tell you, though, that scene when Will is caught in the Jeep in the rainstorm and runs into the pyramid and all of the animals start showing up scared the hoo-hah out of me! At the same time, though, I wished I wasn't on break while I was reading it; I wanted to keep going to see what happened. Big Grin

One stupid question, though, if I may: when Will first looked in his duffel to make sure his "Kevorkian kit' was intact, there was an acronym mentioned ("D5W") that I've never heard of--I'm assuming it's something medical. What is D5W?

Thank you, and I look forward to finishing the book on the train back home tonight.

I watched/listened to Conan the Barbarian last night with the Milius/Arnold commentary track. I learned a lot.

I’ve always liked the film – I think they did a great job of recreating Howard’s ancient world – but I was especially impressed by how much thought went into the imagery: the title sequence of a steel bar being hammered into a weapon is followed by a sequence in which a boy is fashioned into a human weapon.

And I like that it’s a movie-movie (i.e., you can watch it with the sound off and still know most of what’s going on).

I just found out from Brian Freeman at Cemetery Dance that Midnight Mass will be shipping in the next 2-3 weeks!!! Cool

Yet another wallpaper! I spent almost a whole day making this one up. I neglected to add the copyright stuff this time around, but I shouldn't have to tell you that this picture should remain here and maybe on some forum member's desktops. I don't want to see it as the background for some random guy's personal online photo album.

Um, some comments... I couldn't remember which way Jack's scars pointed, so just ignore it if they're backwards or whatever. This came from a photo (you can see below) of the pine barrens that I swiped from someone (you'd never know, though). Up in the sky are some giant bugs pouring out of a hole, and there are some balls of light flying around, and yeah, general Otherness creepy-type stuff going on.

I know the bugs were supposed to come out of a hole in the ground, but there was no room, and besides it looks kinda cool this way. Well, I hope your eyeballs enjoy (and this time I got the proportions right, so feel free to actually use this as a wallpaper!).

I love you, digital airbrush.

Here's the original picture. Many thanks to Mike Baker, whoever he is.

I was just thinking back to Legacies and wondered, are Jack's thumbnails still nice and long for...necessary occasions?

What limited/first editions are the collectors here most looking to find? I'm interested in knowing what's out there.

Is it possible to tell (without the gun as evidence) that two bullets fired into different people were fired from the same person's gun? Or would you just be able to tell they were shot by the same type of gun? OR are there any guns/ammo so rare that finding two people shot by that gun would almost certainly mean that they were shot by the same person?

Sorry if these questions sound stupid. I'm kicking around a story idea, but I know next to nothing about weapons.

I finished reading The Select last night. I may never go to a doctor or hospital again. Ever.

You've told us about your writing process, but what of your environment? Where do you write? time of day? music? What about your note-taking process? Are paper and pen within constant reach or do you rely on that steel-trap memory? Finally, and I know you're busy, but are you working on anything other than the RJ books?

What were some of the best scary scenes in FPW's fiction?
