I first got interested in Repairman Jack after reading an excerpt from Cold City on the website criminal element.com.

At the time I knew nothing of F. Paul Wilson. But Cold City appealed to me because it took place in NYC of the 1990s. Since I am originally from NYC, I enjoy books that take place there and Cold City definitely had the sense of place that I have come to appreciate.

I mentioned to a friend that I was reading the book and enjoying it. He told me that he had read a bunch of Repairman Jack books, and mentioned that there were some 'other' elements in them--meaning occult or supernatural. I'm not a huge occult or supernatural book fan, but after finishing Cold City I picked up The Tomb, and really enjoyed that. From then it was one Repairman Jack book after another until I finished the entire series more or less in order. I really enjoyed Nightworld. It really is well written horror in the descriptions of some of the things happening to some of the characters in it really evokes a sense of--well, horror (it's late and I can't think of a better description). I finished the entire Repairman Jack Series in about 3-4 months. I consistantly ahd trouble putting the books down.

Anyway, after finishing the Repairman Jack Series I went on to read The Keep, Reborn (which I put down with a few hundred pages left to go and will go back to), and then picked up the Secret Histories, which I am working my way through now.

I really marvel at the way FPW created a whole mythology that ties together these and some of his other books, and the whole concept of a secret history of the world and otherness.

Glad to see you're still keeping the shiney side up and hope you do for many more years to come. Happy Birthday Vaughn.

So a few years ago I posted a n idea for a Premium channel (Hbo, Showtime) RJ TV series. It was well received and a lot of good discussion followed. A few years past and I came back to continue on the forum but forgot both my username and password. So I just created a new one to discuss Netflix.

Now I know that our hero FPW has been fighting the good fight to get some sort of film or tv adaptation forever, and I am sure he is sick of it all together. All I can say to that is thank you for your continued effort, and we all still pray/hope it bears fruit sometime. But on to my point...

Should it ever bear fruit I think Netflix would be a perfect fit for an RJ series and here is why. Those of us who have netflix instant know that for the last year or so , it has been adding more and more original programming for our viewing pleasure. And for the most part imho, the quality has been stellar. You only have to look at Kevin Spacey in House of Cards for proof. And whats even better is that due to the sales of seasons on dvd and netflix like subscription services, people have been getting used to and wanting every episode of each season right away, one after another. So netflix releases the entire season for us to devour as fast as we please.

Now the Founder of netflix has said that eventually he wants netflix to be 60% original programming, and the rest movies on demand, so it's safe to say he is hungry for more tv show ideas, and waiting for the one show idea to make netflix a must have subscription service. Its Dexter, Its Game of Thrones if you will. I believe in my heart of hearts, that Repairman Jack is that show. While I always hold out hope for netflix to bring back something like Carnivàle, I would happily drop all other movies channels to have RJ.

Now like I said, I know that RJ is in development hell, and that its still far from coming to fruition, I simply think that should it ever come to that point, that Netflix would be a wonderful home for our man Jack. Thank you all for your time.

Life is a comedy at times. As a homeowner, married working stiff (I expect to find myself on "Walking Dead", armed with a hammer and sheetrock as I fight off leftovers and go over the household budget with the Mrs.) and published HACK author (I hear the song, "Paperback Writer", when I find time to sit down before the computer and project warped inspiration to document!). In other words, outside of the news, I really don't have time or energy to watch too many films. But I did make an exception.
"DRACULA" (1958), best known as "Horror of Dracula", the immortal Hammer film classic has FINALLY been fully RESTORED -with the legendary censored scenes put back in-on an excellent region 2 Blu-Ray dvd. The package contains 3 discs-a Blu-Ray, Digital dvd, and a documentary disc of wonderful extras. The film, now with the title "Dracula" restored and now screened at the original 1.66:1 aspect ration (not cropped like the domestic disc), the image is beautifully shown with all the colour and shades, missing from all versions up to now. You get the 2007 BFI cut (that starts with "Universal-International") and the 2013 edit, which has the famed footage that various horror magazines talked about (and shown pictures of) of Dracula's sun-drenched death (the footage was found on a Japanese print in Tokyo). A new commentary by film historians Marcus Hearn and Jonathan Rigby, heard on both versions, is informative and keeps the interest. Lionsgate and the BFI have come through with a great release and I am sure a domestic issue will one day show up here!

Here's an announcement from Borderlands Press giving their regular customers an early heads-up on a new project that I'm involved with. I'm doing the same here for you Forum folks. Once Neil Gaiman's 1.8 million followers on Twitter find out about this, the limited items will start disappearing fast. (Neil is so into the Hogbens he filmed a video for Kickstarter.)

This is a labor of love for me. Henry Kuttner's Hogben stories have held a special place in my heart forever, and this is the first time all 5 have been gathered in one volume. (Check out what Neil and Alan Moore have to say about them.) It took me years to track down the missing 1st story from a very obscure 1940's pulp. Once we found it, we contacted the estate for permission (yes, Kuttner's estate will share in the proceeds) and got to work.

THE HOGBEN CHRONICLES
edited by Pierce Watters and F. Paul Wilson
Introduction by Neil Gaiman
Afterword by F. Paul Wilson[SIZE=4]

The editors and Mr. Gaiman have agreed to sign 600 copies of the various editions.

Beginning today, Borderlands Press is celebrating its first project with Kickstarter! We would like to give you a chance to participate before we advertise to the general public on April 13th.

Thanks you for all your support over the years. This one will be something you will treasure.

Our book is a celebration of a superbly talented writer, highlighting some of the most unique and memorable tales in the SF/fantasy genres. He died WAY too young at the age of 43, and we’ve made sure to gain the full cooperation of the Kuttner estate so that his heirs will share in the proceeds.

He was a very special writer. Here's what Alan Moore (From Hell, Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The League of Extraordinary Gentleman) says of him:

"Henry Kuttner was one of fantasy and science fiction's most accomplished and intelligent voices, as well as one of its least celebrated. His Hogben family stories are among the most original and certainly the funniest works in the genre, and to have them all finally collected in one volume is nothing short of a dream come true for genuine devotees of imaginative literature. Read this at once, and if you've read it already, then read it again. A masterpiece."

—Alan Moore

The remake is rather cool and pays homage to the original. It is laugh out loud funny because of the ridiculous amount of gore.

I don't know how they managed to secure just an R rating, I would love to see what was left out.

The film plays it straight horror though, no slapstick haminess of the original's two sequels.

The absence of an Ash character is interesting but it saves the film from being predictable as far as who is going to survive.

Overall, the film is horribly violent and awesome fun. Not scary really but plenty of yell at the screen moments and more than enough averting of the eyes moments.

We're visiting NYC next month, and we'd love to find any bars/pubs in the books. (Back in 2008, the nice people on this forum recommended the Ear Inn, which is now our most favorite.) Any other suggestions?

Cheers!

I remember when I first heard about the book "Hannibal", I was hoping that Harris had gone back to tell the story of Graham and Lecter's first meeting, which was talked about in Red Dragon but never expanded on. Now this show is doing just that, and I couldn't be happier. Mikkelsen was great in Casino Royale. Can't wait to see this. (By the way, "Manhunter" is one of my all time favorite films, despite the terrible 80'2 music).
