This is one remake I'm excited about. It looks like a lot of laughs. Steve Martin is great!

I doubt the topic title would hold the full name. Wink

I went to this last night, and I was looking forward to it. I read the book as a kid, I think I read all of them, and I had fond memories of the series but do recall that this one wasn't my favourite (I think I liked Dawntreader best).

From what I remember of the book the film is a pretty good adaptation. The effects are great and the performance of the little girl is astounding. Dakota Fanning watch out.

I really enjoyed the first half, it captured my imagination and brought back alot of ideas of being a child and discovering something fantastic. But the film started to fall flat in the second half.

Spoilers (Highlight to read)
The prophecy is fine, I can handle that, but as soon as they started talking about them being Kings and Queens it just didn't make sense. Why?

Peter being made a knight after the wolf impaled himself on Peter's sword. Why?

And a teenager taking control of the battle after Aslan's indisposal. Why?

Lose the royalty stuff (they are unique, no need to make them leaders straight away), have Peter defeat the wolf rather than accidentally impale him, and even demonstrate that Peter's knowledge of WW2 back home could give the good guys an advantage at the end, and it would have all rung a little bit truer.

End Spoilers

Kids will love it. The niggles I have above will not bother anyone under thirteen years of age, and all the characters are easily accessible, with the creatures of Narnia being a true wonder.

As I said, I did enjoy it, but felt a little disappointed.

I just got this book the other day, and I'm digging it. I'm not through with it yet, but here are my thoughts on some of the short stories I have read.

Faces: Loved it. A compelling story. Never before have I felt for a criminal like this.

A Day in the Life: Uhhh...its a Repairman Jack story. 'Nuff said.

Slasher: Again, I love the twists that this short story has.

Definitive Therapy: I have a soft spot for this story, mainly because I love anything having to do with Batman. Has anyone else read Batman: No Man's Land? I think thats the title of it. It is, besides this short story, the only place I have really felt the brutality thats at the core of who the Joker is. Also, this has one of my favorite quotes in it: ""But they can't" he said with another laugh. "Because I've been classified as insane! I'm not responsible. Isn't that wonderful? Oh, its so good to be mad in America. I can do unto others, but they can't do unto me!"" Completely true, and coming from someone like the Joker, completely chilling.

I liked it. There was plenty of action, humor, and I thought the chemistry between Pitt and Jolie was good, but there was a meanness that went against the grain of the rest of the movie in several scenes that prevented it from being a truly excellent action/comedy.

Both Pitt and Jolie are so attractive that I think their acting, which I think is usually solid, is often overlooked.

Rented the movie yesterday -- Wasnt to bad really.. I would say it compares well with spiderman and batman movies.. A little less action but more humour.

I was about to go online to order "The Chrismas Thingy," when I got a call to pick up a package at the UPS Store. I wondered what it was; I hadn't ordered anything. I was stunned to see "The Christmas Thingy" inside, inscribed by FPW to a young friend of mine. I totally forgot I'd ordered it.

I'm nothing if not consistent. Big Grin

I'd never read it. Great little book and the illustrations are lovely. Well done, Paul!

Maybe this is a step in the right direction for one of them. I thought you would get a kick out of this:

This may be a little early to point this out - or is it never too early? - but my friend Kim pointed this one out to me last night and I thought I should post it before I forget to...

Friday - page 91: Tom mentions his children from his marriages - 2 sons from the first and a daughter from the 2nd.

Wednesday - page 302: He mentions that a son and daughter are from marriage #1 and Donald is from marriage #2.
