Wanted to see this on the big screen but schedules didn’t mesh. Heard bad things about it and, yes, the whole traveling-down-the-lightning-bolts-to-machines-they-left-here-a-million-years-ago-that-nobody-happened-to-trip-over-in-those-million-years thing was crap, but man . . . watch this thing in SurroundSound with the subwoofer cranked up and it’s freaking awesome. Yeah, you could have cropped the whole Tim Robbins sequence and not missed a beat, but I was glued. Tom Cruise may be a major a-hole, but he did right by this film . . . although I don’t know if he’d have been half as good without the amazing Dakota Fanning to play off of. (Jeez, that’s an awful sentence, but I’ll leave it be.)

Rented this movie over the weekend..

Double thumbs up --

Good acting, Good Action and the movie was just well done overall. One of those movies where your left with a good feeling at the end.

Worth a watch by all -- and its not really just a "guy" type of film either, more then enough of a story line to catagoize this as a date film..

Enjoy

On the cover of Implant, who is the masked man? Is it our favorite author or some guy pulled off the street? "Hey mister? Come over here and put on this mask. We'll put on the cover of a book."

I just read the teaser for Harbingers @ Gauntlet Press. I wonder if the pain thet Rasalom was telling Jack about at the end of Gateways has to do with Jacks unborn child. What else could bring Jack the kind of pain Rasalom wants to dish out? At first I thought maybe Gia but, I remembered she is in Nightworld. I can hardly wait to see what Rasalom has planned for Jack.

I enjoyed "Walk the Line." Joaquin Phoenix is a favorite of mine, and he does a great job here. The real joy in this movie, though, is Reese Weatherspoon. She'll be Oscar bait for sure, as will Phoenix.

"Walk the Line" is a solid film, certainly worth seeing. But I still think Phillip Seymour Hoffman takes the cake for acting this year. As good as "Walk the Line" is, "Capote" is far better.

Unusual girly point of view comment: For some reason, few films realistically capture female hairdos of bygone days. It's a pet peeve of mine. Women's hair styles in the '60's were often extreme, and most films don't get them right. This one does.

I was looking forward to "Brokeback Mountain." The trailer really got me. Unfortunately, the trailer is where the best of the movie lies. I wound up seeing it in Chelsea at a theater showing the film about 3 times more frequently than anywhere else, and all the shows sold out. As the lights came up at the end of the movie, there was not the thunderous approval I had expected, given this was the target audience.

The movie is beautiful to look at. Ang Lee is a painterly director. His images are lovely. But something was missing and I'm not sure what. The burgeoning relationship between the leads takes place on Brokeback Mountain. It's pivotal to the movie and is, in fact, the heart of the film. But the growth and depth of this relationship seemed rushed, not fully formed. Jake Gyllenhaal was not strong enough, and Keith Ledger was terrific. Somehow the whole of it fell short. Too bad.

It's worth a look once it gets to DVD.

Richard Pryor was hilarious comedian/actor. My favorite movie was "Stir Crazy". On TV, he and Chevy Chase's skit in Saturday Night Live was hilarious. Big Grin

Hey gang, sorry for the delay in posting here. As of today, EVERY SINGLE copy of Xmas Thingy has been shipped out via Priority Mail regardless of whether or not you've paid for it yet.

I gave everyone FREE Priority Mail shipping as a thank-you and Xmas gift to everyone. International orders all went out via Global Priority except with one or two exceptions where people ordered other items besides Xmas Thingy.

There were some orders where the credit card was declined, and some people who are paying by paypal haven't paid yet, but all the books went out - I didn't want to risk anyone not getting it in time for Xmas. I'll be emailing those whose cards were declined. If you got a paypal invoice but haven't paid it yet, please pay it when you can even though I've already sent the book -- or else Thingy will come haunt you until the end of your days.

For those who haven't ordered, anyone who orders this week will PROBABLY get their copy in time for Xmas if they use Priority Shipping ($5.00). I can't give free Priority Mail shipping anymore since we just break even on copies that I do that with. But if you order a copy before December 15th and choose Priority Mail shipping, it will go out by the 17th via Priority and should PROBABLY get there in time (it will probably get there by the 23rd, if not earlier).

We have about 20 autographed copies left (we can't get inscriptions for you at this point, but they're still signed by Paul).

If anyone has any problems with the books when they receive them, email me at spinmatt@aol.com. I'm guessing EVERYONE will have them by this coming Thursday, and most people will have them earlier.

I was wondering why FPW uses different publishers. Is it ,"where can I get the best deal" type of thing or do different pubs. have different +'s and -'s?
