Opposite sides of the spectrum, for sure. Smile

The Mist

Very true to the book, except for the very end; however, that was planned in advance and I knew to expect "a surprise," which it most certainly was!

Somewhat gruesome, as all Stephen King stuff usually is, but not as bad as some movies I've seen. I'd definitely see it is you like King, horror, or need a case of the heeby-jeebies. Big Grin

Enchanted

I'd never even seen a commercial for this, and I was surprised when it started as a cartoon! However, the main character's "banished" to the real world with some comedic results. Kids will like it, and I, being a kid at heart, loved it! I really like James Marsden, and his character is very funny in his parts. The music is pretty catchy, too. Smile

Anyone else see anything good this weekend?

Anybody watching the John Adams mini-series?

I'm really liking it (see how easy it is to come up with an alternative to enjoying it immensely). JA is a little stodgy for me but I get a kick out of Ben Franklin. Quite the character.

Amazing how much American History I've forgotten over the years.

Might have to pick up a book and brush up a little.

Not sure if this has ever been sown in the US

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tribe-Complete-B...768&sr=8-1

Bruce Parry spends a month to 6 weeks living with a tribe in attempt to understand a little of their culture, share their lives and reflect on how the modern world is encroaching on their lives.

He does so fully immersing himself in the tribes ways and trying to genuinely live as a tribal member for his brief stay.

This is re-running on a UK satellite channel and I am hooked. It is both entertaining and thought provoking at the same time.

If this ever shows in the US - watch it - at least one episode to see if it makes you think as much as it has me

Cheers

Don't know if this was ever a thread, but I thought it would be kind of cool. See the music videos from everyones favorite bands (or just favorite videos). I'll start with a few, these are all metal music videos as well,

In Flames - The Quiet Place Really great song and video and with minimal growling.

KoRn - Coming Undone Numetal, metal mixed with rap (the only way to get me to listen to it at all).

Hammer Fall -Blood Bound Great song, no growling, just catchy all around.

Distubed - Prayer Cool song, actually about Job from the Bible.

Just a few I like and In Flames is now one of my all time favorite bands. Although, I think a little too heavy for many of the members on here, definitely webby lol.

Being the old film buff that I am I always enjoy watching a repeat screening of my favorite films. Here is two to start:

"SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN" starring Anthony Quinn, Sir Laurence Olivier,
Oskar Werner and David Janseen.
Wonderful drama as Quinn playing the 1st Russian Pope. Inspired!
"12 O'CLOCK HIGH" starring Gregory Peck, Dean Jagger and Gary Merril
My wife and I have lost count on how many times we sit down and end up watching this great drama. Always great viewing!

Quote:[SIZE=1]Update: Depp movie looking for extras
March 25, 2008
BY BEACON NEWS STAFF
A casting company is looking for extras to work in the Johnny Depp movie that will be filming in Aurora on April 5 and 6.
Last week, Paramount Theater signed a contract to film part of "Public Enemies," starring Depp and Christian Bale, in downtown Aurora. The movie is [SIZE=3]directed by Michael Mann.
The film, about the life of gangster John Dillinger and the birth of the FBI, is set in the 1930s. In order to recreate the look and feel of the film, male extras need to be less than 6-foot-2 with a jacket size no larger than 44 and female extras must be shorter than 5-foot-8 with a dress size no larger than 10.
The press release cautions people not to call if they do not match the size requirements, because the casting agency cannot make exceptions.
To reach Joan Philo Casting, call is (312) 924-1840.
When you call in a recorded message will prompt you to leave your name, phone number, and make sure to let them know you are calling for the Aurora shoot.

I could go and ask him about the director's cut of "The Keep."

Was curious, as it seems a good many of us are also fans of the Preston/Child Pendergast novels. I know that it's been brought up from time to time that one or another of us would love to see the team up of Jack with A.X.L. Pendergast given the locations being both NYC and the contrast of the two characters.

Since P/C already work as a team I could imagine that a crossover might not be too dificult, at least form the collaboration angle.

So, anyway to cut my rambling short, Paul, has the thought of approaching P/C on such a venture ( or vice versa) ever come into your mind as a serious thought?

For all the wannabe RJs out there......

http://www.popsci.com/scitech/article/20...experiment

"In 2006, David Holtzman decided to do an experiment. Holtzman, a security consultant and former intelligence analyst, was working on a book about privacy, and he wanted to see how much he could find out about himself from sources available to any tenacious stalker. So he did background checks. He pulled his credit file. He looked at Amazon.com transactions and his credit-card and telephone bills. He got his DNA analyzed and kept a log of all the people he called and e-mailed, along with the Web sites he visited. When he put the information together, he was able to discover so much about himself—from detailed financial information to the fact that he was circumcised—that his publisher, concerned about his privacy, didn’t let him include it all in the book.

I’m no intelligence analyst, but stories like Holtzman’s freak me out. So do statistics like this one: Last year, 127 million sensitive electronic and paper records (those containing Social Security numbers and the like) were hacked or lost—a nearly 650 percent increase in data breaches from the previous year. Also last year, news broke that hackers had stolen somewhere between 45 million and 94 million credit- and debit-card numbers from the databases of the retail company TJX, in one of the biggest data breaches in history. Last November, the British government admitted losing computer discs containing personal data for 25 million people, which is almost half the country’s population. Meanwhile, some privacy advocates worry that the looming merger between Google and the Internet ad company DoubleClick presages an era in which corporations regularly eavesdrop on our e-mail and phone calls so they can personalize ads with creepy precision. Facebook’s ill-fated Beacon feature, which notifies users when their friends buy things from Facebook affiliates, shows that in the information age, even our shopping habits are fit for public broadcast. Facebook made Beacon an opt-in service after outraged users demanded it do so, but the company didn’t drop it completely."

Late next Friday Nite-2AM EST- TCM will broadcast, uncut I understand, the classic 1970 supernatural thriller "BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW" starring Patrick Wymark and Linda Hayden. The film was directed by Piers Haggard (the great great grandson of writer H. Rider Haggard). The transfer is 1:85 and I understand some picture info was cropped but this is a chance to see one of the best supernatural thrillers ever made.

Have you already seen "Escape From New York," "The Road Warrior," "28 Days Later," and "Resident Evil?"

If so, then run, don't walk, from this bizarre derivative rehash/ripoff of the above.

A more detailed review is available in the blog at my website.

I give "Doomsday" TWO-AND-ONE-HALF out of five cans of diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper.

Nuff said.
