Without running the risk of looking like a complete idiot, who are yall talking about. What other cult is similar to the dormentalist? Oh by the way I thought Crisscross was one of the best....of course that could be because I have been reading Dan Browns stuff. And he just can't compare with the best author in the world.

Well I just finished Reborn last night, thanks to Dave, who kindly sent me a copy (thanks Dave!). I can't wait to get started on Reprisal now...so much stuff is set up in Reborn so it's gonna be cool to see how it all comes together in the next book.

It felt different to the other FPW I've read...more episodic I think than the others, almost like a prologue to Reprisal I guess. For the first time I felt aware that I was reading a part in a series, as opposed to a stand alone (The Keep, The Touch, The Tomb and Nightworld all stand apart pretty well in my mind). And I can't help but wonder if that damn journalist is going to get his comeuppance - logically I guess he shouldn't because he did Molasar a favour, but still. What an ass. And I'm curious to see if Nicky makes a reappearance, 'cos of all of the characters I found myself growing quite fond of him. And I liked Jim too. Too bad. Sad I honestly didn't see that coming...
I disliked Martin a lot though, so I hope something bad does happen to him.

Oooh and Carol's dreams man...how nasty were they? I wonder if Jim used to have similar dreams - it mentions he always felt aggressive but nothing about the dreams, so it would appear Molasar has a stronger effect on Carol than he did Jim. Anyway I'm off to start Reprisal now! Cool

I saw this movie, last year in theater. Wasn't it released in U.S., until now? Unbelievable! It was pretty scary movie.

Quote:Woman Gets Threatening Letter After Hanging Up On Telemarketer
El Paso Police Investigating Phone Call

UPDATED: 11:35 AM EST December 7, 2004

A Detroit-area woman received a threatening letter in the mail after hanging up on a telemarketer calling from Texas, according to Detroit TV station WDIV.

Jill Beyer, of Waterford Township, Mich., said she received the letter about one week after she refused to donate money in a recent call from a telemarketer.

"He wanted a donation for the veterans' association, which the veterans don't get that much of that money. That's why I wouldn't donate to him," Beyer said.

Beyer (pictured, left) said the man refused to take no for an answer so she hung up the phone.

"I slammed the phone very hard," Beyer said.

The letter arrived postmarked from El Paso, Texas. The first lines read, "Before you are rude to another telemarketer, you should keep in mind that he or she has your phone number and your address. Many of them live in your own state and most don't give a (expletive)! "

(Full Letter)
Quote:Jill Beyer,

Before you are rude to another telemarketer, you should keep in mind that he or she has your phone number and your address.

Many of them live in your own state and most don't give a (expletive)!

So, Ms. Beyer, the next time a telemarketer calls and you don't want to be bothered, a simple "not interested" will do.

Your son or daughter or next-door neighbor's daughter could very well be a telemarketer. A handicapped, wheelchair-bound person could be a telemarketer. A biker or ex-con is more likely to be a telemarketer. You really, really shouldn't (expletive) with them!

As they say in the telemarketing industry, "Have a good day Ms. Beyer!"

"It makes me nervous. Obviously he's not playing with a full deck and even my kids are nervous," Beyer said.

El Paso police are reportedly taking the threat seriously and are searching for the person who sent the letter.

Paul,
How many comic stories have you written? I can think of four:
Creepy 44: With Silver Bells and Cockle Shells
Eerie 34: The Sound of Wings
Open Space: Biosphere
Weird Business: Trolling

The reason I ask, is that I found in a comic shop Eerie 34 for $9 (in not so great shape) and was wondering if you've done anything else not mentioned in the bibliography, and if there's ever a chance for reprinting these stories.

Over the weekend I saw Mike Nicholas new film, Closer. It's a hard movie to describe but I think Roger Ebert summed it up best: "Fascinated by the game of love, seduced by seduction itself, they play at sincere, truthful relationships which are lies in almost every respect, except their desire to sleep with each other."

A lot of articles are speculating that the four actors (Jude Law, Julia Roberts, Clive Owen and Natalie Portman) all have a good chance of getting Oscar nods this year. In my opinion, Natalie Portman is the most impressive of the cast and really shines in this film. She is the one you can really see struggling internally.

There are a lot of great funny moments in this film, but Closer is anything but a comedy. It's a dark tale of self loathing, self pity and self discovery. Two couples walked out when I saw it because, I presume, the unflinching dialogue is raw.

Although the film is dark, and none of the characters are particularily likeable, by the end you have witnessed their growth and have some hope that they will improve as people.

This is a film I highly recommend. But don't expect to come out feeling all warm inside.

fpw Wrote:Cowpunk is the term. Joe or Pat -- I forget who -- came up with it. This was back in the heyday of splatterpunk fiction. They wanted wild weird/dark fantasy in a western setting: What else to call it but cowpunk?

Well I hope you don't mind, but I've been using it to describe cowboys who couldn't ride a horse if their life depended upon it! You know the guys I'm talking about don't you? Thanks for the response, I have read a few books by you and I'm looking for more, it's almost an addiction! Big Grin Thanks for responding to me, and everybody else... Thanks for the welcome, I'll try to get back more often.

And, as a result, I'm getting a DUBIOUS REPUTATION on this message board!

Maggers:

A "Dubious" reputation is a GOOD thing! Don't you remember Romper Room (may have been before your time)? A DO BEE is good, and a DON'T BEE is bad. Thus a Dubious reputation would be good. All you have to do is avoid a Don'tbeous reputation!

PS, I hope I'm not rubbing off on you, I think.

What, no thong to go with your Santa outfit? :o

Hello everyone. I am newly registered but have been out there for awhile and am really impressed with the forum. My username, as you can see, is dr_em2001, but you can all call me RJ. No, not Repairman Jack, it's actually been my nickname for years, thats just a coincidence. I really love all of FPW's books, but originally wasn't interested in the Repairman Jack series. I began with Mirage, Nightkill, Deeper Than the Marrow, and FPW quickly became one of my new favorites. So, I picked up the Keep and enjoyed the book immensely. After I finished it, I found out that it was part one of a cycle of books, and started reading. I had heard that the second AC was the first RJ book, and didn't really want to get into the RJ series, but after reading the Tomb, I was hooked. I havn't found The Touch yet, locally, but it doesn't really matter because I am addicted to RJ. I have read The Tomb, Legacies, Conspiracies, and All the Rage, plus I have Hosts on the shelf. I am happy to be here, and hope to see you guys around.
