One of my specialties at Christmas or birthdays is to find that "hard-to-find" stuff that my friends and relatives have been trying to find. My best friend commented that she would love to have the "Promo" Time Magazine Cover from Reign of Fire. Or even just a jpg or gif file so she can frame it. I have searched EVERYWHERE! I looked at the auctions. I looked at movie props for sale companies. I did in-depth detail searches on Google and now my head is spinning. I looked up movie stills; you name it. I can't find it anywhere. I even tried the Time Magazine website. Any suggestions? There's probably something obvious that I haven't thought of.

Bawp Wrote:Hi there,

I'm currently working on a website that involves listing and detailing as many classic fictional villains I can think of - and one of those on the top of my list has to be Rasalom/Molasar. I read the majority of the adversary cycle (starting with the Keep) around four or five years back...however I never owned any of the books myself and now that I want to write an entry for Rasalom/Molasar I can't really remember all that much detail about him. The two appearances that stick out in my mind are his incarnation in the Keep and his role in Nightworld - but the details I can remember are too foggy to make a decent enough entry about him.

I know he's this ancient evil entity with immense power, but without the books I can't build up a great picture of him. So it would be great if the people on here could detail him a little more - his origins, his role throughout the adversary cycle etc. Additionally it would be great if people could throw up any memorable quotes about/said by him. Also any ideas on his darkest deed (I figured it was him turning Earth into a Night World) and his finest hour(possibly the same)?

I'll be sure to credit people's input - I just want to do this guy justice, and hopefully anyone who reads about him an interest in the adversary series and the RPJ series.

Also, if anyone has any more suggestions on villains who I should list, please let me know.

Anyway, thanks for your time,

~ Bawp

Welcome to the board, Bawp. Sounds like you've got a good project going. I'd suggest Dr. Marc C. "Blackie" DuQuesne from Doc Smith's SKYLARK OF SPACE series. (Though, to be fair, he did redeem himself like a champ in the last book, SKYLARK DUQUESNE.)

So, there I was at a very small airport (currently operated by the US military for Tsunami relief) in Thailand getting some fuel for my plane before the return flight across the Pacific to my base in Oklahoma. As I strolled around the "complex" of US military, international relief workers etc, I happened across an area of relief supplies being re-boxed for distribution. I was taken aback by the sheer numbers of supplies of water, food, clothing etc etc being air-lifted in (24 hours a day by the US military). Suprisingly enough, in addition to the much-needed relief supplies, people across the globe are sending books, magazines, children's books, school books/materials etc. This tent I happened to enter, was the central point for organizing all these books.

I was quickly enlisted by this very nice woman from Stockdale CA to help her move two very large and very, very heavy boxes (as my already tired muscles could attest to). As I put them where she needed them, I happened to glance inside one. Lo and behold, the entire top layer of books were F. PAUL WILSON books; more specifically, RJ books.

Amazing! What a coincidence! Very cool, eh?

[Although, I am not sure how they will help the relief efffort in the destination they were labelled.......it was cool none the less to see them there]

I stumbled on Douglas Sirk's "Imitation of Life" this morning. I LOVE this film. It's so rich, so lush, on so many levels. The script is terrific. And it's rendering of racism in America at that time is ... well, timeless. It's also a tribute to a mother's love, with all its complications.

At first glance, the film my seem heavy-handed and overblown. But it's not.

I am as moved by the film today as I was when I first saw it maybe 20 years ago. I'm not a fan of Lana Turner, but she does a good job here. And Juanita Moore is untouchable, just magnificent. Her character is the warm and glowing heart of this movie.

I love Sirks' use of color and the outfits! Man oh man, what I wouldn't give to have some of those Lana Turner dresses! Fabulous!

My favorite is the final scene, the funeral of Juanita Moore's Annie Johnson, an event she planned so carefully. The funeral procession is elegant, graceful and triumphant, with a beautiful, flower-draped hearse drawn by four magnificent white horses and followed by a big brass band. Suddenly, Sara Jane, her daughter who has been passing for white for years, runs across the street crying "Mama! Mama!" Sara Jane throws herself on the hearse, desperate to get one last hug from the mother whom she banished and denied for all those years. Oh my god, it breaks my heart and I cry every time, every time.

The previews looked good, so I dragged my poor husband to see this movie yesterday. What a huge mistake. The funniest scenes were in the previews. So two minutes of funny lines in a movie that lasts an hour and 50 minutes, just doesn't cut it.

The movie is boring and pointless. The performances have no heart. It was so bad, I almost left, but my husband had hope it would get better. Unfortunately, he was wrong.

Save yourself the money and skip this dud.

Yeah, that's right. Family Guy is making it's triumphant return on Fox Sunday night. The animation sucked. The writing was first rate. Truly funny stuff. I picked up the first two seasons on dvd earlier in the year and really loved the show. Great characters, zillions of pop culture references and some of the best lines ever.

This bit is my favorite from season one.

The local mob boss wants Peter to perform a service.

Peter
So what do you want me to do?
Whack a guy?
Off a guy?
Whack off a guy?
Because I'm married.

Mob boss
All you have to do is go to the movies with Fat Paulie.

Peter
OK, but If it's anything with Greg Kinnear you can whack me off right now!

I hope the show is still funny after such a long layoff.

Johnny Zero made its debut last night on Fox TV. An ex-con, caught between the mob and the FBI, helps people solve their problems. Yep. Another original. No cliche was left unturned. Nice look to it though--noirish.

Okay, Vegas seems to be in for a helluva shocker! I don't wanna jinx anything, but according to my TV, the Jets just might beat the Steelers tonight. 10 minutes left in the fourth and they're up by 7??? I was hoping they would turn that fumble into 7 more. . . . I love underdogs!
Of course, the Colts will still take all, but . . . . . . . .
