My six-year-old grandson guided me through this yesteday. It's cute and clever and the gameplay reminds me of Myst.

(For those of you unfamiliar with Myst: Nothing happens until you start clicking on things.)

All hail the arrival of a new, low-budget king: Shallow Ground. The $72,000 was well spent as this fiendish gem provides ample doses of all the horror staples in an original package. It gets my highest recommendation.

Today I saw "Danny the dog" in theater.

It was pretty good action movie. Jet Li's awesome speedy fight sequences were great as much as past movies. And in a other meaning, Bob Hoskins was extraordinary bad guy. Even if he got gun shot assault or car accident, he never died. When I saw his plaster , I laughed "Ha! He's still alive!". Big Grin

Well, but this movie has not only action scenes. At the same time, I thought this is family movie. Sam and Victoria, they saved Danny, and they accepted him as family. Black old man, white young girl, and Asian boy...even if they are not relationship, they are "family". That's most important thing. Luc Besson wrote nice story, like Leon.

Has anyone seen this movie?

Found a Japanese disc of this 1962 Toho film (Yosei Gorasu). I remember seeing stills of it in Famous Monsters magazine back then but could never find it in theaters or on TV.

It's sort of a Japanese When Worlds Collide, but instead of another planet coming our way, it's a "star" that's 3/4 the size of Earth but 6,000 times its mass. (I know, I know.)

[SIZE=3]In WWC the solution to the impending collision was an arc-type rocketship to find a new world. In Gorath, they decide to move Earth out of the way by installing a huge array of thrusters in Antarctica.

A mostly silly 90-min movie that runs 60 min too long. But it has a couple of cool scenes. One is the view of Earth from space with Antarctica all aglow from the thrusters. The other is Gorath's gravitational field stripping Saturn's rings as it passes.

This release contains the missing 6 minutes of the giant walrus (awakened by the melting of the Antarctic ice) that were cut from the version released in the US because they thought it was too silly. Probably a good decision. It did nothing for the story (what little there is) and looked like a hand puppet.

TohoScope's 2.35:1 aspect ratio demands a large screen.

The subtitles are all English except during the UN scenes when people are speaking English -- then they switch to Japanese. I've never seen this before, but it works.

Why am I wasting so much time writing about this?

This is an old-fashioned monster movie at heart, but it's tricked out with big guns and bad CGI. As for the story, well, the tag line should read, "Incoherence has a new name, and it is Alone in the Dark".

I have a friend at work who was very large with child, and I gave her a copy of "The Barrens and Others" as a pregnancy gift. I like giving to the mother; I figure everyone else will give gifts for the child.

At any rate, she had a long labor, 17 hours, which resulted in a C-section. Mom and very big baby boy are doing well.

Mom said that while she was...well...laboring, she read snatches of "The Barrens." She loved it and found it a wonderful distraction. She is now reading "The Barrens" while breast feeding. She's still loving it but wonders if all the shivers she experiences while reading are having an effect on the child. Wink Either way, she's not stopping.

She is now an FPW convert. She loves the clarity of Paul's writing and the smooth flowing narrative, not to mention the thrills and chills. She's hot to trot for the next book. Short stories are best for her at this time.

Other than "The Barrens," I don't think any of FPW's short stories are in print now, are they? Any suggestions?

I wanted to start a thread to facilitate all of us sharing our pictures or comments concerning all of FPW's works: short and long, RJ and non-RJ, horror, sci-fi, and other. Paul's body of work is so vast and diverse that there's truly much to share. I hope to see everyone contribute.

Let's start with some of the other hard core collectors sharing pictures of their most prized FPW works.

I am a long time fan and a regular peruser of the board but not a regular poster. It saddens me to let everyone know that I have put my signed limited of the Haunted Air on ebay.

My wife and I have unsuccessfully tried to have kids the past year and are going to see a specialist and we are finding ways to raise some extra money. One of my ways unfortunately, is to sell off several of my limited edition R. Jack books. The only good news will be the thrill of buying them again later in life. I only hope the faithful readers of this site will be able to obtain them from me. I will be out of town this week so I won't be reading any posts. I will answer any questions when I come home Saturday.(I am helping out at our church camp this week.)

Just came back from seeing it. It was pretty funny! LIke most of these computer animation movies there was stuff in it WAY above the heads of the kids (and even some of the younger adults).

Hey guys,

I was curious if you could explain to me the LaNague(sp?) Chronicles... I can't find a clear explanation of what stories constitute this cycle. I have heard Healer, Wheels within Wheels, etc.. What is the correct reading order? Is there a compilation of all these stories out there?

This may be a stupid question, but it only mirrors my own intelligence level....
