I'm finding that I'm enjoying Conspiracies as much as The Tomb & Legacies.

Having Abe Grossman in the opening pages immediately put the reader into familiar territory & allowed the story to really take-off.

Watched this last night. Bless the FF button. Had it's moments but was sloooooow. Too slow with too many too-familiar elements to recommend.

I just watched this documentary and must say that I was shocked at some of the events that transpired during this "stand-off" which I had not seen before. This documentary follows the BATF and FBI assault on the Branch Dividian "compound" back in 1993. It contains footage from the congressional hearings and from video taken by the Davidians themselves. Most interesting (and damning to the government) is footage taken by a forward looking infrared (FLIR) camera from a plane overhead. (Ken, if you haven't seen this footage, check this movie out.) This video footage clearly shows evidence of gunfire which contradicts direct testimony from many of the agents and administration officials given during the hearings. Its really a disgusting display of the unrelenting power of the government.

Beware: there are some very horrific shots of the carnage and corpses.

I've been waiting since last fall for this season of Nip/Tuck and I just read Season 3 won't start until September! That sucks. In general, summer TV is no good, but that show is fantastic. I am really looking forward to it, but it's a longer wait than I expected Sad . I guess that means more Beauty and the Geek and Dancing with the Stars...naw, that means more reading!

I can't imagine letting my extra copy of The Keep, or WWW, for example, be adopted by just any mope who can win on eBay.

In that vain... I "need" a signed edition of Sibs

Did anyone else watch this new show on Fox tonight? It's about a FBI team in LA who try to stop serial killers. So far, the show looks to have a lot of promise. The one thing that will kill it quickly however is if it becomes a "serial killer of the week"-type show.

It does seem that the creators (one of which is Tim Minear who has been a part of all the Whedon shows such as Buffy, Angel and Firefly) are creating a lot of backstory for these characters with a lot to be revealed in the coming episodes. Very moody, very dark, I hope this show lasts... assuming of course the story stays interesting.

But with my luck, as is usually the case with shows I like, it will be cancelled. Sad

The idea behind The Final Cut is a facinating one. The question it poses is somewhat subtle: are your memories reality? While even the casual viewer will pick up on this subtextual storyline (although may not realize it), the overall story is a basic thriller.

From Netflix : "In this futuristic tale, chips inserted into the brain at birth record a person's entire life; when the person dies, the video is edited and shown at the funeral. Video editor Alan Hackman (Robin Williams) hacks out the worst of a person's life, depicting sinners as martyrs. Alan's turned into a cold megalomaniac, but things change when he finds his own scary childhood memory in the databank of a client. Mira Sorvino and Jim Caviezel also star."

Robin Williams really shines in this film giving an extremely subtle, well balanced, under-acted performance. His lines are kept to a minimal amount, most of his thoughts and emotions portrayed through his eyes. It's a rare performance extremely pleasurable to witness when films today suffer from excessive dialog. The Final Cut is truly a minimalist film.

The supporting cast is just as good the exception being Mira Sorvino. Unfortunately, her acting here is comparable to previous performances: giddy smiles of affection. Only in one instance does she give us a very strong performance.

Right now I'm sort of torn. I would have liked to have had more about what is memory, what is reality and what is our perception. But then I wonder if these questions had been more inclusive would it detract from the subtly I love about films like this?

Even though this is a slighty slow-paced film it's worth checking out. With the performances and questions raised the idea behindThe Final Cut are as interesting as the conversations viewers will have on the subject matter.

Recently, the Sci-Fi channel has been playing marathon-length strings of Kolchak: The Night Stalker episodes, which is good because I love the show. Anyway...one of the episodes which I'd completely forgotten about was on just a week or two ago, and it featured a certain kind of Indian demon which walked around in various guises which appeal to the eyes of the beholder. I do believe this creature was called...Rakshasa! Yes, the very one upon which a certain other kind of demon was based by The Man... Big Grin
