Me and my friends debated about Star Wars and Star Trek. My friends are almost Star Wars fan. They've never seen Star Trek before(even the next generation!). Nevertheless, they said "dislike" Rolleyes .

At last, yesterday, Revenge of Sith was released in Japan! Big Grin This morning, my friend called me, and he said "Hey, now I'm going to theater for Star Wars. How about you? You are not coming?". But I dislike crowded theater, so I refused his offer. I have a schedule to go to see it Tuesday.

Well, maybe their comparison is stupid. I like both of them. Star Wars is "wars", Star Trek is "adventure". But basically, they are SF. I like SF movies.

How about you? Which do you like? Star Wars? Star Trek? Or both of them? Smile

What does Repairman Jack do to stay in shape? Maybe a question for FPW more than anyone, but I've been dying to know how Jack's rooftop exercise routine goes (I've left my copy of the Tomb at home for the summer, and besides, doesn't the mother Rakoshi interrupt his workout?).

Sorry for the obsessive prying, but a "Repairman Jack Workout Regimen" might be just the thing I need to keep active for the next few months.

Does anyone know when Infernal will be available widespread?

Amazon still lists the book as "not yet released".

I'm diein' for my next RJ fix! Big Grin

This is a question for F. Paul, why the change in cover art style on the RJ books starting with Gateways?

The spectral silhouette on the other novels was such a cool unifying design element. I really missed it on the latest novels.

Also, the new design almost has a cigar band feel to it. Was that by design? Do you get a say-so in the art and/or design of the cover?

I recently finished "Midnight Mass" and loved it, natch.

I was impressed with the sensitivity with which FPW wrote about Catholicism, and in particular, the genuine fondness for the old time religion that was evidenced. That's not to say that the book was without its (rightful) criticism of the Church and its caretakers, those who abuse and misappropriate the trust put in them by followers.

But the balance between those divergent viewpoints was striking to me.

As a Catholic in recovery (a nifty turn of phrase used by FPW in his foreword), "Midnight Mass" made me look back at my life as a Catholic with, dare I say, fondness. There was an innocence captured by FPW in "Midnight Mass" that I miss. I almost ache for it, that sense that goodness counts, redemption can be achieved, and prayers can be answered.

Actually, goodness, redemption and prayer are all part of my life, but in a very different way than when I was a practicing Catholic.

I'm not quite capturing what I experienced in reading "Midnight Mass." Nostalgia may be close to it. Life seemed simpler then, more black and white, actions and consequences followed logically.

Perhaps I'm simply missing my youth, and the simplistic views I held then.

It never fails that, despite the topic, FPW's books are thoughtfully provocative, even while scaring the bejesus out of you!

I'll say up front that I liked this movie.

That done, the only real hook to this flick is Christian Bale's Ethiopianine appearance- oh wait, and maybe that dude's… nevermind. But the story is reminiscent of other movie's you've seen that I won't mention here so nothing's spoiled. But Christian Bale is good, as usual. There's even a little Michael Ironside tossed in the mix. This movie is about a guy who hasn't slept in almost a year… for some strange reason. He is constantly losing weight (I don't think insomnia has anything to do with weight loss, does it?) and he begins to question if some of the things going on around him are real. That's pretty much all I can say.

I'd give it two and a half toes up out of four (you'll get it after you seen it).

I recently read this book written by horror master Hideyuki Kikuchi (translated from the Japanese and published in 2005 by Dark Horse Press). The novel is set in 12,090 A.D., where vampires assumed the roles of nobility among (mostly) cowering humans via vampiric black arts and gentically engineered monster enforcers. In a world that's a blend of hi-tech and medievalism, various hunters arise who attempt to kill werewolves, witches, and vampires; the greatest of these hunters is a young half-vampire named "D." Sixteen additional novels comprise this saga. The blurb on the cover hints at a "hit motion picture," but I have never heard of it. I believe the movie is animated. Anyone out there who's seen this picture? Opinions?

I took the kiddos to see Howl's Moving Castle, Miyazaki's latest. It is full of amazing animation and some inspired imagination, but I didn't enjoy it quite as much as Spirtited Away. Perhaps it was due to the fact that he was not the writer of the source material.

5 Children and It comes from Jim Henson's Studio and it relies much more on live action than most other efforts from there. However, that didn't bother me or my kids much as the story is smart, funny and full of whimsy. And for the Eddie Izzard fans on the board, he provides the voice of the Sand Fairy.

I am curious what prompted/inspired you to write Black Wind.

I checked the previous threads and found discussion of the historical aspects of the book - but no one asked what drew you into the story.

Thanks!

As I was watching the previews for the upcoming movies before seeing Batman Begins last night, the trailer for "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie came on.

I thought, why in the hell can movies like this, that anyone with half a brain can gurantee will make no money of significance get made, and will actually more then likely lose money (Charlies Angels, blah blah...hear there is a Love Boat movie in the works....Soul Plane....could list hundreds of them if I was so inclined)
and the Repairman Jack movie be having such a hard time getting to the big screen?

Really kind of ticked me off last night. Thank goodness the Batman movie brought me out of that. But still......WTF?!?!?!?!?!
