Hey all,

I read the Adversary Cycle years ago and loved it, and only recently discovered that there is now a RJ series. So I'm playing catch-up (I've read through Conspiracies), and I found this website. It has been a wealth of information. I've checked out the forums and FAQs, but some stuff doesn't appear to have been updated in a while, so I just wanted some quick confirmation on a couple of things:

Only The Tomb and NightWorld have been subjected to rewrites, correct? (I have the old editions of both, and am wondering if they are the only ones I need to re-acquire).

Although not yet widely available, the NightWorld rewrite is done? This suggests that in any RJ books to come, he's not going to learn anything new that would contradict what he knows in the rewrite (in the way that the first version of NightWorld now contains contradictions). Or will another NightWorld revision be necessary in a few years??

Thanks!

Yes yes yes I know there is a much older posting with many replies on this subject, but I get the vibe that they are all from folks who read signed advanced sales copies of Harbingers.

This here post is for us folks (the majority of the readers of Paul's books by the way) who just, only very recently, purchased Harbingers at your neighborhood bookstore.

I read my copy yesterday (last night) and could not put it down! Yowza! Great stuff! Big Grin

* * * POTENTIAL SPOILERS * * *

There are so many excellent story threads and theories and plotlines that pull together and are finally revealed by the end of the book that it could have been titled "Nexus" or "Tapestry" or "Paradigm" instead.

I have not read the updated Nightworld (and will not do so until I have finished reading all of the RJ books that Paul will write). But I find myself hoping that Oculus Diane is given a role in Nightworld, albeit a small supporting one. I find that her character has so much potential.

I "loved" the idea of the Yeniceri (I once wrote a spec script for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine titled "The Janissary) and more background information on The Twins! These two characters practically stole the show in CONSPIRACIES, and I can see why Paul had to kill them off, lest they overshadow Jack in further books.

All the heartache with Jack, and Vickie, and Gia is...well...heartbreaking. Sniff. Sad

I do have to admit, though, that while mother nature and her doggie worked pretty well in most of the books, by Harbingers they seemed to have turned into pretty predictable walk-on roles. I hope in the next book or two that Paul does something a little more original and interesting with them...IMHO.

Great book! I've gotta read it again.

I have the opportunity to purchase a copy of Freakshow. Forgive my naivete' but, is there a FPW story in the book? I see it on the cross reference, but where does it fit into things?

I am really glad I saw "Hollywoodland." It's a slow moving period piece that carefully builds its characters and draws together pieces of fact and fiction leaving the viewer to decide what really happened to "Superman" George Reeves.

Every actor is superb. Ben Affleck was terrific, better than I've ever seen him. I was touched by his poignant portrayal of Reeves. I'm a huge fan of Bob Hoskins and he was wonderful, as always. Diane Lane and Adrian Brody were great, especially Lane who was not afraid to play a woman terrified of aging in a land where only youth is valued.

I was delighted to see '50's kids loving "Superman." I mouthed the show's famous opening as it played on the screen...."Faster than a speeding bullet. More powerfull than a locomotive. Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound! Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman!" Didn't we all know it by heart. That show really did affect kids, and the movie shows that, too.

The film does move slowly, but purposefully. Perhaps they could have cut 15 minutes, but I could live with the pace as it is.

I will say that I'll never think of George Reeves in the same way again.

I wonder if I have gotten on The Overlook Connection (Borderlands Press) sh*tl*st somehow.

I mean, has anybody else not yet received their signed and numbered updated edition of NIGHTWORLD yet?

Oh well. Will probably arrive when I least expect it.

I finally hit the bookstore last night and snapped up my copy of HARBINGERS. Psych!

Don't know if anyone here is a Wire in the Blood fan

TV series based on the books/charatcers of Val McDermid

They are about a criminal psycologist who works with the police on murders

Each episoce is almost a mini movie as they are 90 mins long

We are currently getting series 4 in the UK

I understand BBCAmerica is showing the whole of third series on 30th September, with series 4 starting shortly afterwards

If you get a chance give it a try - like to know what you think

IMHO one of the best shows on british TV at the moment

Another AICN announcement.

The role of Billionaire Industrialist Tony Stark is going to be played by none other than Robert Downey, Jr. in the Jon Favreau helmed movie IRON MAN.

According to AICN, Spike TV has apparently cancelled Freshman outing BLADE the tv series.

I'm not surprised. It reminded me quite a bit of WITCHBLADE with the production and writing quality. Good, but never quite over the top.

I also felt that the lead was horribly miscast. Sticky, while admittedly a pretty-boy, had absolutely no charisma whatsoever as Blade, the lead character. IMHO.

A year ago I sold most of my signed limited editions of the five most recent Repairman Jack novels on ebay to help pay for a doctors visit to see why my wife and I were not able to have children. I posted the links to these auctions on this site and got a lot of encouragement from many forum contributors. One of the buyers paid for the book and let me keep it. Jack fans are the best. After a year and a couple doctor's appointments later I am proud to announce that my wife is pregnant and we will be naming the child Jack if it's a boy. I think the first book I will read to him(I am hoping for a boy)will be the new young adult Jack books. Every child needs to know his roots, right? Just wanted to say thanks again.

Harbingers squeaked onto the October 8 NY Times extended Bestseller List (they run a 2-week lead time) at #34. (The list ends at 35.) This is Jack's first time on the list since The Tomb. I'd rather be #1, of course, but it means that last week only 33 other novels in the country sold more than Harbingers. Nice.
