Okay... Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, and Jack Nicholson. That was enough to get me to the movies this week, and check out this movie. If you like the mob movies then you will love this. Honestly, I would recommend this movie to everyone, it is very clever, and well thought through. If I were to compare it to anything I would say similiar to the bizaarness of FightClub, but this movie is a lot easier to follow.

I don't know what to make of "Babel." I guess I'd have to say I'm glad I saw it, or, perhaps it would be more accurate to say that I'm not sorry I saw it. But, why was this movie made?

It has provoked much discussion amongst my friends with whom I saw it. The theater had really comfortable seats, for which I was very thankful, as the movie made me feel very uncomfortable throughout.

There are three stories that unwind s-l-o-w-l-y, and the audience is at a loss at first to see how they are connected.

I won't say anything further about the film in case anyone does see it. But this sums up how I felt about it:

It was as if I were a pig roasting on a spit, slowly turning over red hot coals. No relief and not quite sure how I wound up in such a predicament.

No Anthiny Hopkins........? Yep, this movie is about Young Lector. I thought Jude Law plays young Lector, but....who is Gaspard Ulliel?

I didn't know BBC broadcasted this show. Ha! Is this really Tokyo? I can hardly believe it. But, it's funny show. Big Grin

Dave, Britfan, have you ever seen this show?

I started an online book club and my pick was The Tomb (I'll get people hooked if it's the last thing I do!Big Grin ). I've never been part of a book club before and we are still starting out. I was wondering if you all would help me with some possible discussion questions to bring to the table? The ones I have so far are:
What was your first impression of Jack, Gia, and Mr. Bahkti?
What do you think of Jack's fight violence with violence approach?

We have the book broken down in sections and are still on the first section, but any suggestions for any of the book would be greatly appreciated. This is the first book club I've been a part of. Thanks in advance!

Mitch Robbins: Hi Curly. Killed anyone today?
Curly: The day ain't over yet...
(Quote From City Slickers)

Shane: So you're Jack Wilson.
Jack Wilson: What's that mean to you, Shane?
Shane: I've heard about you.
Jack Wilson: What have you heard, Shane?
Shane: I've heard that you're a low-down Yankee liar.
Jack Wilson: Prove it.
(Quote From Shane)

Just now I got sad sad news.

Jack Palance, the legendary character actor who received Oscar nominations for his villainous roles in Sudden Fear and Shane, and won an Oscar for his comedy role in City Slickers, died Friday of natural causes in California; he was 87. Read more

I haven't seen a lot of his movies. Shane, City Slickers, Cops and Robbersons,
Tango & Cash, Young Guns, and....City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold.

I liked his bad guy in "Shane", and old cowboy in "City Slickers". Can you guess what was sad thing to me? His last movie which I saw in a theatre was "City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold". Oh....that was terrible sequel. Sad

RIP, Mr.Palance...

I have seen posts all about how no one knows who the lady is.

Well, to me it seems pretty obvious that, she is the personification of Earth (Gaia, if you will) I'm not sure how the seperate ladies work into it, or what FPW's exact type of mythology will be, but to me the clues are all there.

Im at work and dont have any of the books with me, so this isn't exact and I probably can't remember all the things that stuck out to me as I read the books, but bear with me.

Examples on why I think this: (just a few off the top of my head)

The Lady has said she is not with the Otherness or The Ally, she just wishes they would both just disappear and leave everyone alone.

The way the Ladies tell everyone that she is their "Mother" (as in Mother Earth)

When they are burying the totem type things into the Earth, she gets wounded on her back.

All this seems quite clear cut to me, and I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else mention this idea, or have I just missed it? I wouldn't be surprised if this is something everyone else has thought of, I'm new to this board and haven't looked at everything, I just wanted to throw this out there and see what others though.
