My 8 year old dragged me to Bee Movie today.
Save the cash.

Much like Happy Feet this flick is a poorly disguised eco-armageddon style movie.

And while I've been saying for a few years now that the slick little one liners and double entendres that pop up from time to time in these "childrens movies" are pushing the edge, a few lines from Bee went right over it- particularly one about how the white man is keeping us down- and the POV turns to a panel of coprporate suits, three of which are white, one is black and he pushes his seat away from them. I can't beleive that made it into a kids flick.
there's an entire quasi-sexual relationship also between the bee and the florist that I found mildly disturbing.

she laughed- and I did too, once in a while. I wont be buying this one for her.

Ok....call me a sucker for marketing, but I am really looking forward to this movie. I've been following all the viral marketing since the nameless teaser was released with Transformers - though not as closely as many of the nutcases on the web. I think the movie could be really good. I just hope they don't wait to show the monster until the last 3 minutes of the movie.

Remember a couple of weeks ago when Fabio got pissed because George Clooney was trying to enjoy dinner with his girlfriend at the same restaurant, and the Great Romantic Book Cover Poser was pissed that George would steal the cameras (because one female photographer just happened to go near his table), and subsequently almost started a "fight"?

Yeah, well, apparently, Mr. Pecs decided to take advantage of the media and make even more of a fuss over it.

From the Internet Movie Database:

The Fob says: "(George) was drunk and thought people were taking pictures of him. So I went to the table and explained to him that we were having a charity dinner and I said, 'You're more than welcome to come to my table and see if there was a picture of you.' I apologized and he started being rude so I put him in his place. After I put him in his place - you know I'm three times his size - he got a little scared. I went back to my table and as soon as I sit down he paid his bill, got up and he started insulting the girls. He called the women names. At that point I lost my temper. I went after him and he ran out of the restaurant. You have to be a low-class, scumbag to start calling a woman a name. If you're a man, you should never. You should be a gentleman. These women were with me and as a man I defend them. He was lucky he ran out of the restaurant. He's not even half a man."

Two words: oh please.

Hey look out, Fabio--there's a swan! Hide your face, quick!

Hey Gang:

The tickets were not cheap but I made the quest to an
Imax screen yesterday to check out the 3-D projected
digitally-animated epic, "Beowulf."

Check out the blog on my website for the full review.

Suffice it to say here, though, that this somewhat faithful
adaption is ultimately dragging, plodding, awkward,
way too self-conscious, and just poorly conceived from
the start.

I give Beowulf TWO AND ONE-HALF out of five cans of
diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper.

P.S. Check out the latest issue of HauteDoll Magazine (at the
magazine rack of your local Borders Books or Barnes and
Noble) wherein you'll find the beginning of the comic-book
styled miniseries "Space Force Adventures," penned by yours
truly...

Rashomon, it's one of Akira Kurosawa's best films. Of course, the top one is Seven Samurai.

This film is Akira Kurosawa's adaptation of Ryunosuke Akutagawa’s short story. The story is about bandit, One traveller and his wife.

If you haven't seen this before, check next link. It has English subtitles. Wink

Rashômon

Quality is low because of old film.

Despite being something of a wasteland at times there are still gems to be found in past and present televiewing. Here are some personal favs some of you might have seen:

"MEETING OF MINDS"
Steve Allen's landmark PBS Series. The format has Allen as himself hosting a talkshow with famous historical figures as guests. They talk about their lives and times then give insight on 20th Century social climes. Emily Dickinson, Galieo, Karl Marx, Marie Antoinette, Sir Thomas More, Ulysses S. Grant, Attila The Hun and Charles Darwin are just a few to drop in with Steve. I really hope PBS brings it back or put it on DVD!

"A CHRISTMASS TO REMEMBER" Jason Robards and Eva-Marie Saint in this Depression era Christmass ghost story about a boy going to live with his grandparents. Joanne Woodward does a cameo. If you find it on tv-check it out!

Started the boxed set of the series Monday night and have seen ten episodes. Love it. What a daring show and what a fabulous cast. Whoever cast Masi Oka as Hiro is a freakin genius.

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I've received another invite to a special 25th anniversary screening of “The Keep” in London. Initially I reminded the inviter that it will also be the 25th anniversary of my bitching about the film. I might have gone (just to hang with people who worked on the film) but I’m committed to the Borderlands Boot Camp on that date. Details here: http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=5457

Was thinking of different locations Jack could/would pay a visit. It’s always fun to see Jack out of his usual surroundings. Here is what I came up with. Opinions? Different Ideas?

Philadelphia - His brother was from there. Throw in our seemingly never ending crime wave, the many famous and historical locations, the flood of New Yorkers and NYC-Yuppie-wannabes that have taken over where the ghetto element hasn’t and I think it would be a good match.

Las Vegas – Its Vegas! So many people, very few of them residents, so nobody is going to remember what Jack looks like ( even less than usual), so many lights, sights and sounds. Plus Jack could take in a show (since as we’ve now learned he is a Musical aficionado). And I know from personal experience, the desert which surrounds that city is one of the most diverse and dangerous environments in this country. Think Casino with Rakashi. It would also be another chance for Jack to deal with UFO enthusiasts and Conspiracy theorists. I would die to see Jack meet Jerry from Conspiracy Theory. Both reside in NYC after all.
