Paul,
I was born and raised in Hawthorne, three towns from Oakland and the Ramapo mountains. Growing up we heard ALOT about the slaves who escaped to the north and whom hid in the Ramapo mountains and woods; ultimately marrying or ending up with Ramapo indians.

As late as the 1970s ( I left in 1978) we heard many of these descendants rarely, if ever, left their part of the Ramapo mountain area and they didn't let outsiders in (for the most part). We heard of stories where firefighters would have to fight fires in and around their encampments but the fire trucks were themselves set ablaze. This tale and others, particularly about how they look proliferated widely in my area.

If you have ever heard of the Jackson Whites, have you used the Jackson White lore in any of your books? I'm new to your work (finally got to the 5th Repairman Jack book today), so pls forgive me if I'm not totally familiar with all of what you have written.

More free stuff to watch than your sanity can take. It's the commercials that drove me to the mountains of madness!!!!!

(untitled) is a little gem of a comedy that skewers concept/performance art without vilifying it, instead it poses many questions of its validity to which there are no real answers. Adam Goldberg and Marley Shelton(she may be a bit old, but I saw Gia while watching)anchor a solid cast that deliver whip-smart dialogue throughout. It's the best independent film I've seen in a bit and while it won't be to everyone's liking, its certainly worth checking out if you enjoy dialogue driven comedy.

Hello all. It's been a while since I've posted - although I regularly 'lurk' - but a lucky find at a local car boot sale* this morning prompted me to return bearing a....
FREE COPY OF BLACK WIND!!!!
I've already got Black Wind but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it for just £1.50 (sorry FPW, I know it's worth sooo much more) and pass it on for someone else to enjoy.
It's a very battered old hardback copy (particularly the dust jacket) and has a library stamp inside it.
But still - it's a damn fine story. Probably FPW's best, in my opinion.
So, if anyone wants it, let me know. On the off chance that there are many people fighting to be the lucky recipient, I'll pull a name out of the hat (or maybe just close my eyes and point randomly at a name on the screen.)

* Like what you guys from Over There call a 'yard sale' but with a car's boot standing in for the yard. And when I say 'boot', I mean what Americans call a car's 'trunk'. Sheesh, this language barrier is hard sometimes!

Today I saw "Unknown"; starring Liam Neeson.

Neeson plays Dr.Martin. He and his wife visit to Berlin for business. But he had car accident, then he awaken from a coma, then he realize that someone has taken on his identity and that no one believes him. Even his wife don't know him! He try to find out his identity, but....

It's typical thriller with great surprises before it turns into an ordinary action movie. And Neeson shows just why he's the right man for this role.

Has anyone seen this movie? If you like "Taken", I highly recommend this to you.

Oh, and this is "No Spoiler" movie, so please don't say he is actually....oops! :crossedlips:

Following my thread on Fast/Furious, what film/s are good for accurate or fairly accurate warfare, fighting, shooting etc.
What films are very bad and why, what was wrong, did the lead hold his gun upside down, lol.Big Grin

Just got done watching one of my favorite tv shows, Fringe, and Walternate, aided by his group of extremists, were attempting to open a worm-hole in Sheep's Meadow, Central Park!

Have the producers of Fringe been reading Nightworld or something?

Talk about one helluva freaky coincidence...wow...

So I just finished reading the book, and then I find the movie on Hulu. Cool intro with FPW, but they sure butchered the story.
