Has anyone ever watched the Michael Apted series of films, 7 Up? I have wanted to see them for years, but was never able to find them until today-my library just got them on DVD. I checked out the first one today.

Guys have you seen the trailer of that new reality show celebrity edition called “Armed and Famous” on CBS? La Toya Jackson will definitely be hilarious for me and also Jack Osborne. First, I see this guy bragging about doing drugs and all of a sudden he gets to be trained as a cop? Talk about irony.

Saw this film on Saturday. Wow.

Based on the book by Patrick Suskind (there's an umlout in there somewhere), it is directed by the guy who did Run Lola Run. He truly captured the essence of smell.

An intriguing tale that is like nothing you've seen before, and put up on the screen with some dazzling visuals (the Grass setting is amazing).

Well acted by all involved (Hoffman and Rickman are dependable as always), the anti-hero (our murderer) is played beautifully, so even though his crimes are deplorable you still empathise with him. And the women he becomes obsessed by are gorgeous, you can smell how sweet they must be to him. Or maybe I just have a thing for red heads (calm down Lisa and Maggers Smile).

I saw it with someone who read the book beforehand, they enjoyed the film, said it stayed close to the book, but the book had more in it. Often the case.

I'm reading the book now and enjoying it. Some things are different from the film, but remain intriguing.

Check it out.

The reference to the "168th Street Armory" brought back many, many fond memories. I wonder, though, how may people know that it is (was?) officially the 102nd Engineers Battalion Armory. I'm sure that's still engraved on the facade, but I think it was "de-mobilized" as a true armory a few years ago. Last time I was in the neighborhood, it was being used for track meets and such.
For many years, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center (across the street) tried to buy the property. Apparently, the armory is built on solid bedrock and nothing less than a direct hit by a small nuke would ever disturb it. (OK, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration but the truth is pretty close.). The med center wanted the property simply because it was so solid.
Tid-bits......(not all of this is necessarily true today, but was in the early 60's)
Just up the street, towards Broadway, was a hospital-owned residence strictly for nurses working at the hospital.
One of our favorite places to play as kids was a big open field just east of the Henry Hudson Pkwy, right off Riverside Drive (you could look down onto the HH from a horseshoe-shaped lookout point). We were furious when Columbia-Presbyterian bought the land and put up tennis courts. The they bought yet another favorite area and made that into a parking lot.
There was a small hospital - I always understood it to be a cancer center - called Francis Delafield hospital - on Fort Washington Avenue between 163rd and 164th Streets. We used to use the delivery driveway of Delafield to get quickly from out neighborhhood to Riverside Drive. Heading west, it would take us to a street the name of which I don't remember, but we called it Snakey or Snake Hill. It was rather steep and somewhat winding and we'd ride out home-made scooters or clip-on roller skates (remember skate keys?) down the hill right to Riverside Drive.
Ah, nostalgia!

I saw Blythe Danner tonight in Tennessee Williams' "Suddenly Last Summer." I discovered that I am NOT a Tennessee Williams devotee.

That being said, perhaps because the show has a limited run, there were some celebrities in the audience. No one radically well known, but Elizabeth Berkley, the lead in the notoriously rotten "Showgirls" was all tall and leggy and blond 2 rows ahead of me. Dylan Baker and his mom were 4 rows in front. He's a fine character actor who usually plays button-down lawyers, priests, or uptight characters. I've always enjoyed him. And in my row, author Eric Van Lustbader sat alone. I wouldn't have recognized him if he hadn't been part of the "Thriller" panel with FPW.

At any rate, the show was OK, but it was fun checking out the audience to see who was there.

Has anyone else seen this yet? We watched it on DVD on New Year's Eve, and really enjoyed it. A great road-trip with a thoroughly dysfunctional family. Wonderful cast, too.

I stumbled upon Repairman Jack recently and decided to give the series a try. I was amazed to find out that not only can I not find them, but I can't find anything by FPW at all at the local bookstores.

I finally found one a few days ago, Harbinger. I hated to get it because I haven't read any of the books before it, but I got it anyway. It was great, but now I'm hungering for more and can't find it.

What's up with the lack of Wilson's stuff out there? Was he blackballed from the industry or something?

Nevermind, I read the faq.

The next movie coming up in my queue. I read about it in Fangoria and had to pick it up. It's an alien-napping in reverse about four guys who were abducted as teens (actually five, but one didn't survive). I'll let you all know how it was once I get it (if the post office ever opens again).
