Some of you old-timers may remember a LONG time ago (circa 2003), when Beacon first took on the RJ movie project, Paul suggested that we might send off an email to Beacon requesting information on the project ([email protected]). Well, I sent one and also saved a copy in my "Drafts" folder. I've resent it probably a dozen times or so at random intervals, just whenever it occured to me, and NEVER once received a reply from anyone at Beacon...... until today. I happened to notice the 'draft' so I sent another email:
Quote:Subject: Repairman Jack Information

Hi, I understand that Beacon has acquired the rights to the
Repairman Jack movie. I am interested in any
information you can give me regarding this project.
Have you signed any actors, a director, etc? Is there
a schedule for production? I am ANXIOUSLY awaiting
this movie and would appreciate any information you
could provide me.

Thank you for your time.

Impatiently awaiting your reply.

Jim ________

Here's the reply that I got today:
Quote:Hi Jim,

Thank you for your e-mail. Because this project is still in development, I am unfortunately not able to able to give out any information. But I'm glad to hear you are excited about the project. I would suggest keeping an eye on Dr. Wilson's repairmanjack.com website for news and announcements.

Best,

Lynda Brendish
Beacon Pictures

I know that this isn't exactly constitute any new information or anything, but it DOES seem to mean that Beacon is now preparing to begin to think about possibly releasing information.

I just found out about this movie and I'm psyched not only because it'll have Jet Li and Jackie Chan together in the same movie, but it's apparently also starring two Chinese actresses currently very popular in China that I've admired for awhile: Li Bing Bing and Liu Yi Fei (who's only 20!). I'm really happy that they're making it to an international stage, regardless of how well the movie does.

From what I can tell, the plot is that an American kid somehow comes across the (in)famous staff of the Monkey King, a legendary Chinese folk superhero from a famous and really fun old myth called Journey to the West. The written novel Journey to the West is considered one of China's 4 literary masterpieces and the Monkey King is known throughout China, if not most of East Asia.

On the down side, Hollywood has to pick one of the most beloved Chinese legends and heroes to bastardize. They have enough trouble just bringing American superheroes to life on the big screen, so I can imagine the butcheration that's going to happen here. Even to me, having the kid there feels strange, as it always does when Hollywood inserts modern Americans into ancient, and often cherished, ethnic legends or cultures. Then again, it could be really interesting to see what they do to the original plot.

I'm also disappointed that they don't seem to speak any Chinese at all in the trailer, but I guess Chinese people speaking Chinese in an ancient Chinese setting would've been too much to ask... :p

Anyway, I'm still very much looking forward to this movie despite hating to see the original plotline majorly messed with. I'm excited to see Jackie, Jet and especially the two actresses. Plus, if this movie'll bring more attention to the fabulous Monkey King, it'll be worth the pain. Cool

Lately I have been catching up on a couple of old TV shows: Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea and The Office.

VTTBOTHS is holding up remarkably well. I've started from the very beginning and I honestly don't remember the initial shows filmed in black and white. They tend to be a bit more grounded in reality than the color ones I vividly recall. They are no monsters and the flying sub has yet to be introduced but I'm enjoying them quite a bit.

The Office is funny but it is uncomfortable humor. The humor generally comes at someone's expense and situations tend to be prolonged long after the humor's been mined. I'm not sure if I'll watch all the episodes because the premise of the inept boss continuing to remain in charge is already wearing thin after just 5 episodes.

Warning: There could be spoilers in this if you haven't read Infernal yet.

Hello. Been a while since I posted anything, but I've just finished Infernal (enjoyed it loads) and wanted to ask some questions as I'm going to have a go at drawing the map to the Lillitongue. Don't ask me why, I just thought it would be funBig Grin. And I like maps (even though I make 'em all day long at work). And it stops me from rushing straight into Harbingers. I like to hold out from reading the books for as long as possible so I don't run out! Sorry if this means you have to dig out the book to look up bits (you mean it's not on display with the rest of your collection?!) but I'm very grateful to anyone who will have a stab at helping me with these.

1. In the book it says: "Right of centre was a wedge-shaped landmass with a northward-pointing nipple. A line ran on a diagonal to a star surrounded by wiggly lines."
Do you think the diagonal line is between the star and the nipple bit, or do you think it's more likey that the line is between the star and the closest bit of land? It doesn't actually say for definite that it's between the star and the nipple, but that's what I first thought.

2. The map is said to have the date on it that the Sombre sank. Do you think that Francisco Mendez hurriedly drew the map on that particular day, or do you think he would have waited until some time after he'd been picked up by one of the following Vatican ships so that he could draw the map in a bit more comfort, and the date refers to when he took a reading of the Sombre's position?

3. The book only mentions the one island but there were other maps made around that time with the other islands shown. If Fransisco Mendez drew the map at a later date (from question 2), do you think he would have drawn the other islands as well?

Well, that's it for the moment, but I'll probably think of more questions right after I click that "Submit" button!

Thanks.

I've read Healer, Dydeetown, Wheels (I'm still looking for a vintage copy of EotS) and although I know that much of it was written first, it is the future of Jack's earth, right?

So no Otherness at all? I know the big "R" gets a whuppin' in Nightworld, but that's just an agent, not the big O itself. It seems like there would be signs of the struggle across the galaxy.

Is there a temptation to go back to Healer and add icons of the Kicker Man -- or a link to the Dat Tay Vao? Big concrete rune-encrysted cylinders on a Tarkan planet? Vanek ladies with dogs?

It seems the there's a conspiracy to make me enjoy musicals; first Enchanted charmed me and now Once is one of the best romances I've seen in quite some time. It is the story of a musician busker who meets a Czech girl and they proceed to make beautiful music together. It stars Glen Harsard and Marketa Irglova who are musicians, not actors; a factor that works in the movies favor as everything felt completely natural. The songs, written by Hansard, are integral to the story and each one is wonderful. Hansard has an incredible set of lungs, I understand he is the frontman for the Irish band The Frames(any fans out there?) and he is perhaps the most dynamic performer on the acoustic guitar I've ever seen. It was neat to watch the band come together and hear the songs grow from their acoustic beginnings into full-fledged band pieces. I highly recommend this one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shameless_(UK_TV_series)

Don't know if this has made it to the US, it is in series 5 in the UK

I have just discovered it, and have to say it is the funniest thing on TV at the moment (in a really warped way)

It is about a seriously disfunctional family

If you get the chance give it a try
