On December 2nd, Fox plans on re-releasing The X-Files: Fight the Future on a 2-disc DVD set.

Oh, but wait, it'll only be on Blu-Ray. Sorry, standard DVD users; no matter how much of an X-Phile you are, you're going to have to miss out on all the NEW special features.

Well, frankly, I'm not going to take this. I've started a petition to reach 10,000 signatures (and believe me, with the amount of fans there are of the show out there, this is not a stretch), to send to Fox to get them to release The X-Files: Fight the Future on a 2-disc STANDARD DVD and give us fans a break.

We want to believe...not convert. Sign the petition, and fight the Blu-Ray!

I know how spamalicious this is of me to do it here on the Repairman Jack Message Board, but since most of you know me, and I know there are bunches of X-Philes in these them thar parts, so please help me make this difference.

Thanks everyone, in advance.

I figured I'd pass this on and see if anyone else has run into similar trouble.

When I attempted to pick up a copy of BTS today at Borders, I was told the book does not come out till November. I then had them double check it and still was told I must be wrong on it being released yesterday, I saw it with my own eyes in their computer system that the release date shows November 2008.

After just getting home and checking Border's online store, it states its out. The store I visited is in a suburb of Boston.

What gives?

Thank you to whever recommended this to me as an addition to my "home invasion" film fest.

Ils (2006) tells the story of Lucas and Clementine, a young couple find themselves the target of a relentless attack and a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an unseen assailant.

The film starts with a bit freaturing the tired retread of a dark secluded road and a vehicle mishap then introduces us in a minimilistic fashion to the couple who will become the target of a dangerous home invader.

Soon the 2 leads are embroiled in a game of cat and mouse as the power goes out, the phone line dies and eerie sounds abound amidts fleeting glimpses of shadowy hooded figures moving about the dark house.

The film uses the "based on actual events" tagline to build the tension, though the film holds up on its own merrit.

The ending was a bit of a letdown, both emotinally and the shocking revelation wasn't all that shocking.

Still, a great film wrought with tension and a sense of helplesness that lingers throughouth the films short 77 minute runtime.

Add it to your queue fellow netflixers...it's an enjoyable and scray run.

When is the actual release date?

I'm halfway through the new one and loving it. The tie in with Black Wind is great.

I particularly like the P. Frank Winslow (right spelling?) character-the novel within a novel. Very creative thinking.

I just got a Kindle and love it. I find it so much easier to read and it is great for when you have a baby and you can't keep a bookmark in place. On Amazon's website it says to tell the publisher if you want books on Kindle. So naturally I said please make By the Sword available on Kindle. Does anyone know if FPW's books are going to ever be available?

I don't want to start a thread about the evils of ebooks and how physical books are superior. I still love my collection of books but it is nice to have them all stored for easy access on a light, portable device.

So, I'm really excited to go pick up and read By the Sword, so much so that I think I'm scrapping my plan to reread the entire series before I read the new one. (Besides impatience, it doesn't help that my mom has the middle third of the series borrowed from me right now.) It's still something I want to do, as I've read them as they've come out since Hosts, which means that it's been a long time since I've read some of these. But, I wanted to make sure that I remember things right, and it turns out, no one's done Wiki articles about these books...sad. So, here's my effort at a BRIEF series recap.
  • The Tomb - We meet Jack. The rakoshi are the main focus.
  • Legacies - Not much connection to Adversary cycle. The story is about wireless electricity.
  • Conspiracies - Jack attends a UFO convention. The idea of Otherness is introduced. The novel ends in Monroe, at a house that collapses, taking out The Twins.
  • All the Rage - Company is making a drug out of Rakoshi blood that induces rage state. Otherness likes it for the aggression and anger. Jack stops the corporation. Rakoshi ends up adrift in the Pine Barrens. Jack sees one of the Gateway orbs.
  • Hosts - Jack's sister ends up in a cult that basically wants to make people into a collective entity that the Otherness will use as an "in" to the world. Jack stops them; his sister is killed. Jack meets the first old woman with a dog. "No more coincidences. A spear has no branches."
  • The Haunted Air - a pair of con-men brother end up with a real ghost that ends up tapped into the Otherness. Gia is almost killed twice, once by the ghost, once in a near hit and run.
  • Gateways - Jack goes to Florida when his dad ends up in a coma. His dad heals. They discover Gateways in the woods - sinkholes orbited by strange lights. New woman with a dog. Hints that the Otherness may be burying artifacts all over the world.
  • Crisscross - Very dark. Scientology-style cult with ties to Otherness.
  • Infernal - Jack's dad killed in terrorist attack at airport. Jack's brother arrives, is broke and looking for a treasure. The treasure turns out to have a countdown that sucks people into the Otherness. Vicky activates it. Jack takes it. Tom finally takes it and vanishes.
  • Harbingers - Jack meets the Yeniceri, a group of knights basically on the Ally's side (the Twins were part of this, as is Glaeken). Turns out that they'e behind the death of Jack's dad, and they almost kill Gia and Vicky, causing Jack to lose his unborn child. Jack threatens to kill himself unless the Ally spares Gia and Vicky. They live.
  • Bloodline - Jack discovers something called oDNA, which seems to trigger violence and evil behavior, and seems to be tied to the Otherness. Jack has oDNA in his blood. This also introduces an odd writer who seems to be writing books about Jack's life.
  • By the Sword - BRING IT ON!

Here's the thing - I know you guys are more knowledgeable about these books than I am, as you discuss them more (I only just registered here, though I've been reading for a while). So what do I have wrong? What am I missing that's of major importance? I know I've missed out on a lot of the single-book stories and stand-alone bits, but I'm just trying to remember the overarching story.

Help? Thanks so much, guys (and gals) - I really appreciate the assist.

Paul,

I recently visited Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado. It is an amazing park. There's a ton of history, legend and magic associated with the Anasazi Indians mysteriously dissapearing in the years between 1100-1200. I'm sure you probably already know this. Do you think this would have the makings of a good Jack (or YJ) story?

On a separate thought, have you ever considered a Jack novel based on Nazi Germany's supernatural fascination during WWII? I know The Keep was based in WWII Europe. But it would be interesting to see how Himmler's fascination in the occult (back in the day) played out in a Jack storyline set in modern day.
