I'm a little annoyed today. Only a little though, not that big of a deal.

Gauntlet has said the only place to buy FPW limiteds will be from them directly. They would no longer sell to other dealers. Well, I usually buy from other dealers due to discounts and bonuses. I preordered Secret Circles, from Gauntlet, to make sure I got a copy asap (since no other dealers will be selling them).

Today I get an email from Overlook saying that if I buy Secret Circles from them, I'd get a bonus "FREE Signed Book Cover!". I guess I should have f**king known f**king better!Big Grin

Those of you who have not ordered yet, may want to shop Overlook instead to get the free signed Book Cover (whatever that is).

from ITW via my publisher: "Congratulations! AFTERSHOCK & OTHERS by F. Paul Wilson has been nominated as a finalist in the Best Short Story category for the 2010 Thriller Awards."

Nice to hear on a rainy day. I didn't know it was even being considered.

I am working my way through the novels and I read Infernal today. It is by far the best book I have read so far. Very touching and well done.

Unfortunately I went to grab the next book "Harbingers" and realized I didn't have it yet. I have Bloodline and By the Sword (which was the first book given to me so I read it out of order.) Now I am putting in an emergency order to Amazon! Can't wait for the next one!

I don't care why it happened or who's to blame. But Conan bid adieu last Friday night, his voice cracking, his eyes welling with tears. Then he strapped on his guitar, joined Will Ferrell, and some rock legends, and played a rousing version of FREE BIRD.

I can add this moment of TV legend to my list of memories, including seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, Janis Joplin on Dick Cavett, Blue Cheer on Steve Allen, David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing Little Drummer Boy on Johnny Carson, and Soupy Sales throwing the middle finger to the live camera during the taping of his tv show for kids.

Hurry back, Conan. I'll be waiting for more great moments to come.

A while back Genrefinity.net was honored to have F. Paul Wilson as one of our guests on our podcast.

One of the segments we had on that episode was called "Remaking The Novel" where I pitched three remakes of Paul's work. The Keep, The Tomb, and The Touch.

He gave The Keep the thumbs up, did not like the remake of The Tomb, and liked certain aspects of The Touch.

While cleaning out my computer of old files I found the descriptions of the remakes I used in the podcast.

I thought I would share them.

REMAKING THE NOVEL

In this day and age of silver screen remakes and reboots nothing is safe or scared. From Psycho, to Friday the 13th to the upcoming Nightmare on Elm Street even to family fare like Race to Witch Mountain.
It is in this spirit that I, Tony Harrington, present my ideas for the remake/reboot of some of New York Times Bestselling Author F. Paul Wilson’s works.
THE KEEP
Original Concept: German soldiers occupying a castle in the Romanian Alps during World War II unleash a dark force from its tomb and soon the vampiric force is murdering the soldiers while concocting a devious plan to take over the earth. A lone warrior familiar with the entity makes a dangerous voyage to The Keep to destroy the monster before it can escape and possibly end the world as we know it.
Remake Concept: Interplanetary Miners stripping planet Rothgar for Lithalorium, a precious fuel source unearth the tomb of Roderick Molasar, a superbeing the history books made legend. Roderick Molasar awakens from his centuries old slumber to a planet stripped of its lifesource and must feed on the miners brains to absorb their knowledge of the mining company and the plans for the planet. Meanwhile, on a remote planet, Isolandris, a prisoner in a maximum security space prison awakens from a centuries old coma and must fight his way through battle droids, mutant guards and robots that shoot laser beams from their eyes. He then must highjack a spaceship full of beautiful women on a peacekeeping mission through the Morodor Galaxy to make it to Rothgar. If he can survive the wanton sexual desires of the women he just might live to battle his old nemesis Roderick once again. In 3D.

THE TOMB
Original Concept:
A mysterious man known as Repairman Jack, a man who fixes problems for people who can’t go to the police, is hired to retrieve a stolen necklace by an old woman. A job that sets off a terrifying chain of events that involves eastern Indian Mysticsym, rogue Bengali demons carrying out a curse on an innocent family and soon everything Jack holds dear will be put in harm’s way. When all else fails, when nothing else works…Repairman Jack
Remake Concept:
Jack Macgillicuddy is a low life tenement slumlord running a shanty in New York’s Lower East Side. His luck changes when he finds a secret amulet in the s-bend of one of his tenants toilets. An ancient necklace of Indian design that when worn grants the wearer super human abilities of flight, super hearing and x-ray vision. Jack uses his powers for his personal gain until he accidentally unleashes a giant city-destroying robot called the Kroton Uber Species Ultra Mamoth 2000…or K.U.S.U.M 2000 for short. Now, with his new super powers Jack must stop Kusum and the fire breathing dragons called Rako that Kusum unleashed on an unsuspecting city before they can destroy the city and possibly the earth. In 3D.

THE TOUCH
Original Concept:
Doctor Alan Bulmer is given the power to heal with a simple touch of his hand. But it comes at a cost: For everyone he heals he slowly loses his memory and he begins to physically deteriorate. The God-like power comes with a curse and soon the doctor descends into madness as mobs surround him begging to be helped and the insurance companies and medical professionals wage war on the man cursed to be the savior of the nation and perhaps the world.

Remake Concept:
Alaina Bulmer is a housewife, a mother of three and a card carrying member of the PTA. Her existence is shattered when a freak chemical accident (mixing bleach and ammonia) gives her the power to read the minds of those she comes into contact with. With her new found power, she and her black lesbian lover, Datay Vao, open a detective agency in their spare time. They take on the case of a young Vietnamese gardener named Ba who is accused of murder and as they delve into the case they stumble upon a dark government conspiracy that soon has the two lesbians and the one man who can come between on the run for their lives. In 3D!

I just saw this movie over the course of 2 nights. I'm sure if I'd been able to sit and watch without all the interruptions I would have enjoyed it more. But the visuals were the best part about the movie. The story started off great. 2 crew members wake up with no memory as to what was going on and one went off to explore while the other guided him. But it quickly devolved into a 'it's all in your mind' kind of flick and that's when it became predictable. But Ben Foster was good, as always (that kid is going to get an Oscar if he gets into the right role). I recommend it for a Friday when you just want to veg out on the couch.

Has anyone else seen this new show on FOX? It definitley reminds me of RJ in a lot of ways. Christopher Chance may have too many contacts and a little to trained and high tech; but his attitude and demeanor remind me a lot of someone we all know. Great show by the way.

i found my first copy of FPW "the haunted air" @ a goodwill thrift store for a dollar! this was around 2003ish... after that its been a hunt ever since... after reading that episode, i went crazy finding "the tomb" and on but i completed my collection. Jack was an addiction i couldnt quit.
i dont shop ebay really, i kinda make a game out of finding old prints of Paul's books in thrift stores and yard sales.. i'm always like, "don't these people know what they're parting with? this is the original printing of 'blackwind'!? " if only i had more currency... i would stock up my arsenal of FPW books that i don't own for the armageddon... of course i have every RJ book, you don't?

I have never been on another board for ANY writer where Jesus frequents. While that is quite a distinction, it makes me uncomfortable.

What makes Paul so special that Jesus "Jeezy" has to sign occasionally make an appearance. Where are the mods?!?!?! ...And how can we ban the son of God?

Just a quickie. I got to see "The Book of Eli" last week, and found it pretty entertaining. I thought for a moment it might not pay off, but it did. Very stylish, great acting, etc. (Gary Oldman is consistently good)... But one of the neat things about it is that the director (and perhaps screen writer) saw fit to place Hayek's "Road to Serfdom" in a shot. Look for it when Oldman is reading a book on Mussolini! Neat touch.

Be seeing you!
