I saw this Saturday and the sequel was much better than the first. Whereas the first lagged in many areas this one started off with action from the very start. It takes place hours after the events of the first with Selene and Michael hightailing it to a safehouse. Kraven goes back to the mansion with some men intent on destroying Marcus while he sleeps, but as the previews probably show, Marcus is already awake.

Len Wiseman has learned a great deal about pacing since the first film, but the sexuality of the film is still awkward like it was in the first (like when Selene kissed Michael), but thankfully short and we head back into butt-kicking. There's a huge chunk of backstory that tells EVERYTHING about these vampires and you find out what the exact link is between vamps and lycans.

Pretty much if you liked the first one, you'll like this one even more. I don't think I should say anything more.

Over the weekend my husband and I bought a big TV and a home theater system that we installed (with much difficulty). So, now we're looking for movies to watch that are enhanced by the surround sound and subwoofer. We have the LOTR movies, which are awesome on the new TV, but if anyone has other suggestions, bring 'em on! We're really excited to break in the new system with some great, noisy movies. Suggestions appropriate for children are welcome too. We're having movie night next weekend with our neighbors and their kids (ages 4 and 11).

BTW, intalling everything so it actually works was one of the most difficult things we've done in a very long time. I was so pissed at one point I wanted to take everything back.

Last weekend, I enjoyed a lot movies. These days, DVDs are very low price, so I bought some stuff. These are two of them.

Hackers--Teenage hacker Dade (Jonny Lee Miller) aka 'Crash Override' aka 'Zero Cool' breaks into the files of evil genius 'The Plague' (Fisher Stevens) and discovers plans for a multi-million dollar fraud. Furthermore, Plague has created a virus intended to wreak environmental havoc by sinking oil tankers. Cue a race against the clock as Dade tries to foil Plague, shake off the authorities and impress feisty skate-punk Kate (Angelina Jolie) aka 'Acid Burn'.

It was very exciting entertainment movie. It reminded me of "War Games", that opponent was Governments, but in this "Hackers", opponent is an enterprise.

La Comunidad--A blonde woman who works as a realtor in Madrid. Her name is Julia (Carmen Maura), her marriage is lifeless, and she hates her job. All of this changes when she stumbles into a gorgeous apartment. So gorgeous that she refuses to sell it to her clients and begins to live there with her husband, Ricardo (Jesus Bonilla). Meanwhile, the apartment above Julia's newfound luxury pad springs a leak that tears through the floor. It seems that an old man has died, much to the anticipation of all of the other tenants. By pure chance, Julia stumbles upon a kind of treasure map that takes her to the old man's lottery winnings. She manages to smuggle it out of his apartment and down to hers, but the rest of the tenants are watching her like a mouse........

This is Spanish movie. "La Comunidad" is a wonderfully delicious black comedy. I liked it! Details are there. Check it out.

THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

I hit the library over the weekend and was very pleased to find a DVD containing an anamorphic widescreen presentation of the movie THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD.

This is a wonderful autobiographical film for ANYBODY who is an aspiring fantasy, sci-fi, and/or horror writer (because it is about one of the more famous writers who straddled the fantastic: Robert E. Howard, the creator of Conan the Barbarian).

While the print was very good, it was not 100% perfect, as I did notice a couple of minor scratches at two points...but heck, nothing really to complain about in an otherwise excellent movie.

DVD "Extras" are almost nonexistent. You get one recent interview between the Director and the female star, Rene Zellweger, which was just okay, and then you get the commentary track (which was excellent) for the main flick with the Director, the Writer, the man who scored the film, and Vincent D'Onofrio (the actor who plays Robert E. Howard) throwing in their two cents.

I watched it twice, once with and then without commentary. The film is a gem. It was made for only $1.3 million and was a 23-day shoot. And you also find out in the commentary that D'Onofrio pocketed a few expenses himself for some nice touches in the film, like renting the classic 1930's commuter bus that Rene's character Novalyne is riding in the end. It was obviously a dream project that he really believed in (I think he ended up being a co-producer of the movie).

I started re-reading the wonderful autobiographical novel ONE WHO WALKED ALONE by Novalyne Price Ellis (which the movie is based on) after watching the flick Saturday night.

Robert E. Howard was a much more complex and deeply flawed human being than the movie ever really lets you find out, but still, I find him a fascinating subject, more so now for the reality of his short life as a tortured brilliant writer (he died at the age of 30), than for his memorable fantasy creation "Conan The Barbarian."

D'Onofrio mentions in the commentary how writers are always coming up to him to compliment the scene where Howard is typing a Conan story while shouting the words aloud, in a near-frenzy...a moment which I have to admit I love, and one which will bring a smile to every aspiring writer who peruses this website.

This movie (that gave Rene Zellwegger her first real shot at stardom: an early screening nabbed her an audition for JERRY MAGUIRE) does a fascinating job of taking us into the brilliant, unstable, and tortured mind of the late fantasy writer Robert E. Howard during the last three years of his life, in rural Texas, 1933-1936.

What Howard accomplished in an all-too short life is an amazing inspiration to anyone who ever put pen to paper (or finger to computer keyboard).

Got out last night and saw Hosile. Not a terrible movie, but not all there either... I got a little bored at the end, and it was not very scary. The fact it was based on some events in past was suppose to scare you, it didn't do the trick to me though. Was a twisted movie, if you like that kind of thing.

Wait for rental, if you are a little iffy as I was.

Ok, first things first. This is my first time posting here, but I have been a fan of F. Paul Wilson for quite some time. I normally use RepairmanJack as my forum handle, but I thought it would be kind of inappropriate here, hehe.

So anyway, here's my question. How many of you would like to see a Repairman Jack novel, probably set before The Tomb, that doesn't have any supernatural element to it? Now don't get me wrong, I absolutely love all of the RJ novels, but I really enjoyed the short story "A Day in the Life" (which is how I discovered RJ, by the way), and I always look forward to the side story fix-it jobs that Jack pulls in the novels.

Sometimes, fortunately, I find good cult movies. Last year, I found used video tape's "XYZ murders". Well, I guessed everybody know this, so I skipped about this.

Today, I hung around in Tower Records. Then I found cult movie's DVD. "A boy and his dog". Starring; Don Johnson. Original short story by Harlan Ellison. Yes he is! HARLAN ELLISON! Once I read his short stories, but I didn't know this story and movie. Have you ever seen this movie?

It's a movie of 1976(30 years ago!). But the story is in 2024, after the World War IV(Not WW III). Some survivors are living on the ground. One of survivors, Vic(Don Johnson) is main character. He can speak with his dog(Brad) by telepathy. Brad is very cute lookin' dog, but he's always using his venomous tongue. One day, Vic met a woman. Her name is Quilla June(sp?). But he was trapped by her. And then.....

This last scene was........very shocking! [Image: erstaunt090.gif] I was dumfounded by Vic's choice. I couldn't believe my eyes. After I saw it, I really wanted to read this short story.

This movie reminded me of "Mad Max2". I guess George Miller saw this movie before he make "Mad Max2". Some of scenes had similarities. It has worth to see anyway. Also it's feels like John Carpenter's movie.

We had gotten this dvd for Christmas and finally watched it. It was silly and a little stupid but parts of it were hilarious. Jack Black is great! The best part is the background songs. You have to listen close to the words.
