Since last night, I started translating "Soft and Others". I'm not only reading it. I translate the contents and correctly input them to Microsoft Office Word.

First, I translated "The Cleaning Machine". It was a truly "short" story, so translation was easy. Japanese title is ''掃除機"(Sojiki). I liked that ending. It was sounds like "The Twilight Zone".

Now I'm translating "Ratman". Japansese title is "ネズミ男"(Nezumi otoko). After I finished translating all stories, I print out those contents to make one book.

"Soft and Others" is not released in Japan yet. So this book will be only one book in the world! I mean....it's only one Japanese edition. Cool

I was reading the story The Barrens and was again taken by the description of desolation and vastness of the Barrens in NJ (SSE of Rt 70?). So I decided to check it out on Google Earth. I found some landmarks like the Hog Wallow Cranberry Bogs and, I believe, the "town" of Chatsworth (the capitol of the Barrens?). It looks like there is an airport/landing strip just to the east of Chatsworth.

I was just wondering if anyone else has checked this out or knows anything about the Barrens and things to look for.

Paul, how did you learn about the Barrens? Through personal exploration or word of mouth and research?

I also just noticed an area designated Dept of Defense. What do they do there?

Damn! There I was looking forward to the adventures of a young adult Repairman Jack, wherein Jack gets into lots of scrapes as he grows his way into what he is today. Then, reading this month's news email, it dawns on me that young adult Repairman Jack books are... well, aimed at young adults. I guess I should have read this information more carefully in the first instance, but - damn! again - I was looking forward to seeing Youth-Jack become Man-Jack.

I saw Karas, an action-packed SF/Fantasy/Horror anime mini-series, over the weekend. Impressive mix of 2D and 3D graphics make it worth the rent. Actually, what I saw was the first 3 episodes blended into a movie-length show, looking forward to part II.

Our old pal Russ Madden has a home page, and by God if he doesn't offer a thoughtful review of RJ10 (or is it 9? Paul--help us out!) I won't (can't!) say more, as I haven't read the book yet. I don't think I'm alone in missing Russ. But jeez, it seems to me that some proud Libertarians are =so= thin- skinned! I'm perhaps the sweetest creature aliveRolleyes , and I've heard monstrous comment about my philosophy, politics, musical faves, and even my taste in lager. But I haven't gone off in a snit! Guess us New York hombres are built sturdier.. .(Russ mentions beer: something like, "Davis passed the first test: he didn't drink Bud or Bud Light." And he wonders if you can judge a man on his taste in beer. Well, #1, to a limited extent, sure you can. And #2, sure you can!) But it was nice to see Russ writing about Paul's fiction. And I hope he'll rejoin the gang.

Alright damnit!!!! Where's my ammo? It looks like I've decided to go postal. Ah, there it is. Click,Click. Alright now I'm loaded! Everybody run for cover!!!!! Boom, Boom, Boom....Click....Click.....Cl.....Shit!!! now my shotgun is jammed. Oh great, now I hear sirens. Who called the cops? I gotta get outa here. Before I go I'll tell ya'll, Both Dave Strorm, and Peachynat responded to the tiebreaker questions. Both of them got both questions right so, I'll let them fight about who is really the best. For the second place group Cobalt79 was the only one who responded so, she is the second place winner. Congradulations to all of you who played. I hope everyone had fun. I can do some more if ya'll would like. Depending on your response will decide if we do more. If ya'll are burned out I can understand. Thanks for playing. Now it's past time for me to go, the cops are impatiently banging on the door so, see ya. If the cops ask, you haven't seen me.

I have been a fan of Mr. Wilson's books for many years. I have read all the Jack and Adversary Cycle books and assorted others as well. I decided it was time to get around to reading some more of his other works.
I purchased the three reprints from Infrapress of the LaNague Federation books and just about finished with "An Enemy Of The State".
My questiion: Each reprint book has a few short stories included. Is there anyway to find out where in the LaNague timeline these take place? (In other words, should I read all three of the novels first and then go back and read the included short stories?)
Thanks,
Steve
BTW - I am really enjoying AEOTS!!!Big Grin
