Yesterday I got one DVD, and I was searching it for a long time as Sheckley fan. It's an Italian film, the title is "La Decima vittima", also known as "The 10th Victim". Have you seen this movie?

Set in the 21st century, this movie depicts a society in which population control is facilitated by the use of legalized murder. That game is instead of wars. Because of the murder game, there are no wars in the world. But the game has rules.

1. Participation is free. Competitors are chosen by computer as hunter and victim.

2. Hunter have a gun, and hunter can kill victim. Victim only run away. Somehow if victim could kill the hunter, victim is winner.

3. If victim won, next time victim is turn to hunter. If hunter won, next time hunter is turn to victim.

4. If competitor won 10 times, ultimate honor and enormous wealth are given to him.

In this movie, Marcello Mastroianni played Marcello who won 9 times. Ursula Andress played Caroline.

If this is present Hollywood movie, it'll be dark future world. But it was an Italian film, and it was made in '60s. Colorful, psychedelic fashions and furniture, a fancy pop music by Piero Piccioni. Someone says "Battle Royale's original is this movie", but I don't think so. "The 10th Victim" is not bloody violence. And nobody's forced to participate to the game. It's free. But I don't want to participate to it.

I felt scary. Even if there are no wars in the world, the game itself is scary matter. But the movie is funny and hysterical!

Today I saw "Bobby", and it was great!

You think this movie is about assassinated Robert Kennedy at The Ambassador Hotel? Yes, and no. At least, not only that.

Hotel's ex-doorman, middle-aged singer and her husband, a hairdresser and her husband, Mexican cooks and black man cook, three hippies, Czechoslovakian reporter, an election campaigners, and a lot of guests, etc. This movie is about their stories. I.e, it's Grand Hotel-style. Everybody has own stories, and they are different, but they have something in common. It's everybody have great respect for Robert Kennedy and they have a hope. But in June 5 1968, it happened...

I don't understand why Emilio Estevez didn't get nominated to Oscar. He did good works, director, script writer, and actor. Also casts are gorgeous! Harry Belafonte, Laurence Fishburne, Heather Graham, Antony Hopkins, Helen Hunt, Martin Sheen, Demi Moore, Christian Slater, Sharon Stone, William H. Macy, Elijah Wood, etc etc...

Interestingly, some actors and actresses played together with Emilio Estevez. Anthony Hopkins = Freejack, Demi Moore = St. Elmo's Fire, Christian Slater=Young Guns II.

If Robert Kennedy didn't die, would you think world got better? I'm not sure. But you(U.S. citizens) can tell me. What do you think?

First, pretend like you've never seen any of the trailers.

Second, prepare yourself for a story of friendship.

Good, now you're ready to go enjoy "Bridge to Terabithia."

The special effects are so "pushed" in the previews and ads that some people actually complained and wanted a refund.

I was lucky enough to have read the book many years ago, so I knew what to expect, and the movie delivered.

If you're relunctant to see this movie because you think it may be about all those weird-looking creatures you see in the trailers, may I recommend you read the book first (short novel).

But the movie is not about "Terabithia;" it is about two friends who create it because they do not fit in their "real" worlds. It is a film for the whole family, but Mom and Dad might have to answer a few questions for the younger ones.

P.S. And bring a hankie with you.

I saw the movie last night. Was very pleased with the effects, but thought that Nick Cage couldn't decide to play the role for laughs or tears. I've followed the Ghost Rider comic book series ever since it was a Western story (and I was glad to see that the movie played homage to the original Ghost Rider--only wish they had used his original white glow-in-the-dark get-up instead of the flames). It wasn't Spiderman, but it was better than The Hulk, Daredevil, and FF.

Now that they've got the origin of GR out of the way, I hope to see some villains worthy of the Rider.

AC

P.S. Johnny Depp originally wanted this role, but passed on it. He could have given the Johnny Blaze character the edge it needed to match his fiery counterpart.

For those of you who enjoy your 'just desserts' stories, and I know you do, do yourselves a favor and rent this little Irish gem. Paddy Considine stars as the older brother to a mentally-challenged brother who was brutalized by the local gang when he was off serving in the military. It's kind of a Death Wish with a twist of RJ humor mixed in. It has one scene that is worth the rental alone-a true classic.

Hi guys, I need help! I can't remember the name of a movie I wanted to add to my Netlfix queue. When we were watching A Scanner Darkly, there was a trailer for a horror movie at the beginning. I can't remember what it was called, but I want to see it! I can't even remember many details, but there was a couple in a car and they stop at a rest stop and she gets attacked. That basic scene seems to repeat itself. I looked in the horror section on Netflix and can't find it, so maybe it's not out yet. It seemed to be a direct to DVD kind of movie, and I don't remember any other trailers for it. If anyone knows what movie I'm talking about I'd really appreciate the help!!

Thanks,
Stacy

I was working and this movie came on television and I just couldn't tear my eyes away. It is about a harsh subject. Rwanda. But it is very human and very well done, at least up to this point. I may be about halfway through it right now.

Like I said, I just could not tear myself away, even though I had things that must be done and I knew almost nothing specific about the tragedies that took place there.

I didn't want to start a new thread about "United 93" as I'm a firm believer in posting on threads that already exist on a particular subject. But the thread on "United 93" is so full of political vitriol having nothing to do with the film that I didn't want to post there.

So here I am.

What an extraordinary film. It is not political. It does not take sides. It is not too soon.

On that last statement, I must say that I avoided the film because I didn't think I could tolerate watching it. My home is 7 miles as the crow flies from the World Trade Center. My dad worked in the World Trade Center before he retired. I liked to hang out in the mall beneath the World Trade Center. Battery Park, adjacent to the WTC, is one of my favorite parks in the City. I smelled smoke in the air for weeks afterwards. Watching anything about that day still feels like a punch to the solar plexus.

I was correct in assessing my reaction to the film. I would have been too distraught to watch it in public. I'm glad I saw it in the privacy of my own home, alone, so that I could cry and talk back to the TV ("I want them back! I want them back," corny though it may be, is what I often cry when I see pictures of the Towers still standing).

The first part of the film is about the unfolding of the events of that day. Neither the airlines, the air traffic controllers, and worst of all, the military, knew what to do. They didn't even know what was happening. We were all getting the same information at the same time, and that was just so wrong.

The hero of that day in this film, in my mind, is the head air traffic controller (who plays himself) who said, "We're at war with someone, and we don't know who it is. We've got to get those planes out of the sky before they take any more." It seems that it was the air traffic control folks who began the landing of all planes flying that day and the banning of all foreign aircraft heading to the US that day.

Because the subject matter is so emotional and explosive, the director had to take a distanced point of view, and he did. The movie is remarkable. It's quiet, tense, and edited magnificently. It's filled with air traffic controllers who played themselves. The cast was peppered with folks who were part of that day.

Paul Greengrass wrote and directed the movie. If it weren't Scorsese's year, I'd say that Greengrass could win an Oscar for best director. It's a shame he's not nominated for best original screenplay.

People on the other "United 93" thread were concerned with exploitation and political agendas. I didn't catch a whiff of either.

What happened on that plane? No one can ever know. I believe Greengrass tried to stick as closely as possible to tapes of phone calls and the cockpit recorder. No passenger was mentioned by name, and the passenger who took charge in the film was not Beamer. It was clear that every passenger reacted uniquely and that everyone was terrified and knew they were facing certain death. That became all the more evident when they learned of the planes crashing into the World Trade Center towers and an explosion of some sort at the Pentagon. In the film, the passengers made it to the cockpit at about the time that the hijackers were crashing the plane into the field. But again, who can know exactly how it went down? This is a film, a recreation of an actual event, and I think it was done magnificently.
