Since I love collecting books the thing that has gotten my poor excuse of a mind going is do people enjoy original editions more or expanded editions? Do the expanded editions become more of a collectors item or do the original editions fall by the wayside? I'd love to hear your views on this.

Also, I would like to take the time to thank all of you for making this site a wonderful experiance for myself where people of various opinions can express themselves and being treated with respect. Knowledge is by learning and by trying to understand both sides of viewpoint and interpretation. It is a great credit to Paul and the gang for creating, in my opinion, the finest forum on the web. And to all of you for being both teachers and students.

I vote for John Woo. Re-watch The Killer and Hard-Boiled and tell me I'm wrong. Dare-ya. Triple-dog-dare-ya.

Well I checked it out with some friends at the Ziegfeld Theatre
in Manhattan last night (Saturday) and yes, this movie has
still got it.

For a plethora of details check out the blog at my website.

No worries for the purists, though. This is not George Lucas
rewriting history. I suppose the closest analogy would be
when Robert Wise was allowed (in 2001) the opportunity
to give Star Trek The Motion Picture the final polish it
never got before it's initial release in 1979.

Ridley Scott's dark sci-fi opus is an amazing vision that is
more relevant than ever. And this latest and "final" cut
has put an impressive polish on an underappreciated
masterpiece.

I give "BLADE RUNNER: The Final Cut" FIVE out of five
cans of diet cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper.

I was going to wait to read Nightworld until after all the Repairman Jack books but I can't wait until 2012! So I started reading the revised edition yesterday and will be finished by the end of the week. Now I'll get to be confused about things yet to come.

Today I saw two assassination's movies.

"Rogue Assassin" AKA:"War"

Japanese Yakuza group vs. Chinese mafia group, Jason Statham vs. Jet Li....I enjoyed a lot of action scenes. But (as usual in Hollywood films) I found strange Japanese Kanji in Yakuza's room. They didn't totally make a sense! And I laughed at Yakuza's sword fight lesson at garden...Gimme a break! Current Yakuza never do that! Big Grin

The theme is "Who is Rogue?"...Well, it was predictable. But never mind. If you like "silly" action movie, I recommend it.

"Death of a President"

Lie, lie, lie, all are lies! It was fake documentary and political propaganda. Rolleyes

I'll give a go...i already suggested in a different thread Paul Greengrass (Bourne movies) and Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle). I won't belabor the points, since I listed them in the prior thread. Anyone else have an opinion?

Silly question...of course you do...

I love it when a favorite character meets up unexpect. with another favorite, well known person in a novel. One example is Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson meeting Edward Rassenddyll (The hero of "The Prisoner Of Zenda") in Nicholas Meyer's excellent "The Seven-Per Cent Solution".

Here's my idea of Jack meeting up with....

A regular at Julio's, well liked and obviously pretty wealthy but who enjoy's being with regular people. He is in his late 80's but pretty spry. His name is Lamont Cranston (The Shadow)

Harry Erskine, a phoney NYC mystic who keep's babbeling (to anyone who will listen) about a Native American spirit who is out to get him ("The Manitou")

A writer named F. Paul Wilson, who would love to shoot Jack. Why? Jack keep's going on and on about the film version of "The Keep" and how much he loves it. The writer would rather be back in his nice peaceful medical office doing something like checking every known entrance to the human body.

Anybody else?

Don't you love laughing and screaming in alternating bursts during a movie? Well, not the untimely laughter of obnoxious fellow moviegoers and the screams of the babies they brought to R-rated movies, but your own enjoyment of a good horror-comedy? And of course, it doesn't have to actually scare you, but as long as it clearly nods to both respective genres.

And please, no "so bad it's funny" movies, either - just movies that accomplish exactly what they set out to do. So in other words, no DOOM.

For me, with only the first three in order, my list would include:
  • Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein
  • Lake Placid
  • Abbott & Costello Meet the Killer (or, to be politically correct, ...Killer Boris Karloff)
  • Ghostbusters
  • Hold That Ghost (yes, another Abbott & Costello...so there)
  • Young Frankenstein

  • Manhattan Murder Mystery
  • Sleepy Hollow
  • Shaun of the Dead
  • An American Werewolf in London
