I guess what I'm asking is, "Is it necessary to read all the other
'Adversary Cycle' stories in order for
Nightworld to make any sense?" I tried to read them. I read
The Keep, but it was a struggle for me - not because it is a bad book, but because I've got no real interest in horror unless there are lots of fights.
I've read all the Repairman Jack novels, and liked them. I read Steakley's
Vampire$, and liked it. But those are mostly "kill or be killed" kind of novels. Conflict. Fights. I like confllict with character development. I like when Jack does fixits. My favorite scene from all the Jack novels are when he got in the gunfight on the subway and when he dealt with the three-card monte players in the park (or were they drug dealers or gang members? I can't remember now).
