Actually, Sydney (Sidney) didn't become a popular girl's name until the 1980s. Before then, it was pretty much exclusively given to males.

I was going to say, it sounds like a romantic family saga, and Sydney has always been a guys name first (you've been watching too much Alias, Marc my boy).

Prefer the singular, more definitive, less Romeo and Juliet.
