Jackie Chan's new movie is not an action kung fu flick. This time out he has followed up his dramatic turn in the Karate Kid with a twist on Scarface. He plays an illegal alien (from China) who enters Japan in a spectacular opening: A sinking ocean liner in the background and hundreds of illegal Chinese on the sand. A cop arrives and the illegals scatter.

Chan ends up in the Chinese section of town that is run by the Taiwan Mafia. Other Asian gangs, including the Yakuza, are feuding over this territory. Chan leads the illegals in a revolt against the Yakuza and is given control over the Chinese territory by the Taiwan Mafia leader. As usual, absolute power corrupts absolutely. It's a treat watching Chan's good intentions slowly go awry.

Lots of gore, machete battles, but held together by a great plot and Chan's nice acting. Just as Jet Li's acting turn in Warlords shows that old action stars still have some cinematic life in them, so too does Chan show there's more to movies than beating up a bunch of guys without a stuntman.

Last night I saw Swedish movie: "Låt den rätte komma in". English title is "Let The Right One In". It's a vampire movie. If you wanna see good vampire movie, don't waste your money to Twilight series. See this "Let The Right One In".

Have you ever seen a vampire movie so tender, poignant, sad, horrific, and gory all at once? No, I've never seen such a vampire movie. This is the most beautiful dark fantasy horror which has originality since "Pan's Labyrinth".

I promise to you this one has worth to see.

I haven't followed many TV shows as they're airing in a long time but suddenly find myself watching a bunch:

Persons Unknown-a group of people are taken and placed in a ghost town with no idea how or why they are there. It'd be easy to nitpick this one but overall it is entertaining and is introducing new elements that are keeping it intriguing.

The Gates-a gated community for the supernatural that the commercials make look like the Twilight saga but has been surprisingly smart and suspenseful so far.

Scoundrels-a dramedy about a family of lifelong criminals who are now trying to make an honest living.

Rookie Blue-a guilty pleasure(Missy Peregrym)that has surprised me with its quality.

While on vacation I also caught Parks and Recreation, The Middle and Modern Family and thought all three were funny, especially Modern Family.

And I've recorded the premieres of The Glades and Rizzoli & Isles.

i am brand new to computers, internet and posting. i am relatively new as a repairman jack fan. I stumbled across jack with interlude at duanes in the Thriller anthology. i can't figure out the faqs on this site because of ignorance i guess. Is there any longtime repairman jack people that would assist a newbie? and how do we communicate?

Gamers...
Have you played Alan Wake, a game about a thriller writer who gets caught inside one of his own novels...it reminds me of F. Paul Wilson's works...it's one of the wildest games....strong plot..that keeps you playing and hanging....internal tributes to Twilight Zone and Stephen King...Dr. Wilson should check this out and let us know what he thinks.

I just watched this movie from Ghosthouse Underground called The Children. It wasn't one of my favorites, but it somewhat remindedme of the unity virus.

I can find ebooks for all but 6 of the repairman jack series (The Tomb #1, Legacies #2, Conspiracies #3, All the Rage #4, Crisscross #8, and Infernal #9).

Does anyone know if these books have been released on ebooks and if so, where can I find them? If not, does anyone know when they might be released?

I am a little more than half way through "Black Wind". I don't seem to remember reading it when it was first published - though why I would have skipped it (having read The Keep, The Tomb and The Touch when they were released so I had already discovered Mr. Wilson's great books) I don't know.
Having said that - while the book is extremely well written and the characters drawn with such exquisite detail that I already feel I know them, the book just seems out of place when you have read some of Mr. Wilson's other works. (And now I have read pretty much everything aside from the three Sci-Fi books that were co-written with other authors.) Almost as though Mr. Wilson decided that he was going to attempt something completely different. (Though I do realize if I had read all his books in order he did change from SciFi/Fantasy to medical thrillers to what I guess would be "adventure thrillers" for lack of a better term.
Just curious as to (1) why the change in genre and (2) why Mr. Wilson never really went back to it.
Thanks, Steve

PS - As I said I am a little more than half way through. So if this post is premature and the monsters/killers and/or Jack-type characters are yet to show up, please don't spoil it for me.

Just got back from a theatre. I saw Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec.

It's fun adventure French comedy movie by Luc Besson. It's not like "La Femme Nikita" or "Leon". "Les aventures extraordinaires d'Adèle Blanc-Sec" had many comedic scenes, not hard gun action scenes.

Adele Blanc-Sec is writer/journalist/adventurer. She goes to Egypt and got mummy(stole from pyramid, actually). Why she stole that mummy? That mummy was doctor when he was alive. Adele has twin sister, but she's unconscious because of accident. Only that doctor can heal her. But now he's mummy. So how...?

There are some ridiculous scenes, also there are many funny comedic scenes. Sure, this is French movie. Big Grin

Especially, last sequences were too funny and I couldn't stop laughing!
