Would you accept foie gras or perfume as a barter?

I'm sure we could come to an agreement. But, no to the foie gras....thx anyway. Big Grin

I've had no problem finding the books I've wanted so far. Barnes and Noble, Borders and Amazon have done well for me. Amazon even had several of the other fiction books. So when I get through my current stack, I'll order those as well.

I do believe B&N is the way to go, Brian. I've never had a problem with them.

Seriously, keeping the backlist on the shelves is an ongoing battle if you're not a household name or a perennial best seller. That's why I love the online booksellers. They have everything in print all the time. I'm all for supporting the indy booksellers, but they have limited space. If you can wait a few days, they can get it for you, but if money's an object (and it is for just about everyone these days), the online discounts can't be beat.

Well, I just wanted a "Cash and Carry" situation. When I went into Borders bookstore downtown and saw almost ALL of the RJ copies they
had (Of course, only ONE copy each) I grabbed them up pretty fast, I can tell you that. There were a couple (like "Hosts") that were missing, but I did not mind in the least, dishing out 80 plus dollars to get MINT clean copies of my favorite fictional hero, since James Bond! I was VERY happy to see that nearly all of the books I purchased were replaced about a month later. I support the independents as well, but, as you said, they have limited space. I would just love to see one store, any one store who would have a FPW "Collected works" section! I know that you are not THAT well known, as King, Rice, or Bradbury, but your collected works are bigger than Rice, a better read than King, and (in many cases) easier to understand than Bradbury. Reading a RJ novel is almost like watching a movie, and VERY hard to put down, once you get started. Some stories (Like "Tommyknockers") I had to skip over whole paragraphs, because King went off on some "other" story, and did not pertain to the main story. The story in a RJ novel stays ontrack from the first page to the last. I had ADD as a kid, so I can really appreciate that factor! Thanks again, and STILL looking forward to the movie. Hope they don't screw it up, like with the keep!

Well, we can't see FPW's new books in Japan any more. The last Japanese edition was "Gateways".....

Paul, pleeeeease! :adore:

Kenji, I have no control. It's up to your country's publishers. Apparently sales in Japan and Germany dropped off while sales here keep increasing. (By the Sword was the fastest, bestselling yet.) Maybe it's a cultural thing. I don't pretend to understand.

I can't understand it either, Paul. I find your fiction "addicting" in the nicest possible way. My Uncle Carl always asks me, "Does that guy Wilson have anything new out, Michael?" And Honest Den Ford, whom I downed a lager or two with at Bull McCabe's Pub last Saturday, said, "Mike, thanks for BY THE SWORD--my dear old Mom will love the new Jack and Gia and Vicky story."

But here's an ah-deer: Germany and Japan are maybe more "structured" societies than the Good Old USA. Could it be a freewheeler--well, an outlaw-- like Jack doesn't resonate with readers in those lands like he does here?

How DO you frost a goat? I mean, with a layer cake, you put it on a turntable and spin it around while the stuff spreads. But goats have a certain lack of radial symmetry.

By the way, I've had a couple of beers to warm up after digging La Esposa's car out of the ice, so expect a small amount of flippancy here and/or there. But then again, you should expect that any time unless I'm talking serious things like libertarian politics, guns or chili (you may get flippancy even there, but you don't have to expect it).

That wouldn't be a bad name for a band, would it?: THE FROSTED GOATS.

The "Young Adult" books won't be necessary for reading any of the adult Jack books, though they may enhance the experience. It is recommended that you read Black Wind before By the Sword, but reading Black Wind is always a good idea anyway. There seems to be an argument whether Deep as the Marrow or BW is Paul's best novel (not having yet read the copy of DatM that I know is in a box somewhere in this attic, I don't have a dog in that fight, but Black Wind is better than any individual Jack novel, though the Jack series beats everything else except maybe the LaNague stuff.
