FPW, where are you????? - lexator222 - 12-22-2008

A friend of mine finally decided to put down his Tom Clancey and Dan Brown books, which he has read dozens of times, and listen to me about FPW and Repairman Jack. So, I thought that I would get him a set of books for the holiday season.
Borders bookstores = NOTHING! Target = FORGET IT! Walmart = YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING! I even hit a couple of used book stores = "F. Paul WHO???"
GEEEEEEEZZZZZ The guy has written a TON of books and nobody has even ONE copy. I had to drive downtown just to pick up a copy of the "By the sword" hardcover, which only the Borders downtown had a copy (12 miles one way, but it was worth it!) Everyone can ORDER me a copy, but there is not one in stock anywhere! What is going on? AND, forget about trying to get a copy of "Reborn", you will just have to try and find a used copy on Ebay or Amazon somewhere!
I think that this is a sign of the end times, when an accomplished author such as Doctor Wilson cannot have a giant section in most bookstores. Granted, the Borders downtown did indeed have one copy of about 10-12 books, including "The Keep" and "The Tomb" (Have not seen "Rakoshi" anywhere yet) but, as I said, only ONE copy of each! (But they were NEW!) But Stephen King had about 3 rows of EVERY book he has ever written, and at least 3 copies of each book, at LEAST 3!!!!
That really frosts my GOAT!!!!

What do expect at those low-rent joints, Lex? Come to my B&N at 66th and Broadway in Manhattan. I use my cosmic powers as the Performing Arts supervisor to keep mucho of Paul's books on the shelves. (Though when the Fiction people catch me in their electronic territory, they pull my shirt up over my head and beat me with bargain copies of WAR AND PEACE.)

I can hardly ever find any of FPWs books in the Hastings I live by and the B&N I live near charges some hella money. I always look in said section in Hastings and I always think the same thing when I see whats there.." Damn you Stewart Woods, just die" lol..No kidding about not finding reborn or reprisal anymore, I inherited my copies and thankfully on a lucky day a friend gave me a copy of Night World years ago.

I'm at the Jersey Shore.

Seriously, keeping the backlist on the shelves is an ongoing battle if you're not a household name or a perennial best seller. That's why I love the online booksellers. They have everything in print all the time. I'm all for supporting the indy booksellers, but they have limited space. If you can wait a few days, they can get it for you, but if money's an object (and it is for just about everyone these days), the online discounts can't be beat.

And what for those in Europe?

We have to watch Amazon like milk on the stove, pre-order everything, and try not to lose hope through the many "we are not sure we will be able to deliver" mails...

You could always ask a friend.....Wink to order it for you. Some of us are nice that way and will even send it to you post haste.

Weird...I have no problem finding Repairman Jack books at Barnes & Noble and Borders. I even find them at Half Price Books.

It's all the other FPW books that I usually can't find. And it seems like half the time the stores can't make up their minds as to where the books belong. When I was first getting into the RJ series, I quickly learned to look in both the horror and science fiction sections of stores.

For the next RJ book, I might take you on your word Big Grin

Would you accept foie gras or perfume as a barter?
