what I wanna know is why all the media facets for vampires has them portrayed almost always with a southern accent..Whatever happended to the Romanian breed,the aristrocratic fiends who would sup upon happless fools and interlopers of many various tastes..I blame Anne Rice...lol...no,shes cool...but still...

I think it has to do more with the fact that both Anne Rice's novels as well as the Sookie Stackhouse books take place in Lousianna.
I think because the south in that area is old money(in parts) and decadant. Keep in mind that Armand and other vampires in Rice's world had accents that were more slavic.

Bill Compton actually lived in Bon Temps before he was a vampire so a southern accent in his case makes sense. Theoretically he should have lost some of that accent during the years he didn't live in Bon Temps, but I guess that's dependent on how quickly he picks up on accents.
