Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if he were a human shifter. Sam didn't say that was impossible, just that humans were too complex. I would take that to mean too complex for him to do.

I think Sam looked all shifty-eyed when he said it, which I kind of thought meant that he could but didn't want Sookie to know. Or it could mean that others can, but he can't.
I can't really discuss who I think the killer is because, if the show follows the books, I already know who the killer is.
