Less than two days to go, and low priced (for now).

Jumped up from $9 to $26 in one day, with one more to go. I think the price will climb quickly with several watchers on this book. The cover price for the limited was $39 back in the day, but I think this book will end up somewhat higher as the bidding approaches its end. This seller has some other interesting books as well, given the fact he's selling off 1000 of his limited editions and advanced review copies.

Price skipped up another ten spot. One reason I've never been fond of eBay (aside from being ripped off in two different ways the first time I placed a bid there; the seller's no longer a seller, but still left a trail of pain), is that I have a certain $$ amount in mind when I think about bidding, and yet due to the huge number of people watching, I know some enterprising soul will come along at the last minute and bid slightly higher, or there's a rush of manic bidders driving up the price far beyond what I want to spend. So, I trawl through abebooks, alibris, tomfolio, publisher web pages, and individual seller web pages looking for items with set prices. I may miss out on some bargains on eBay, but there's a balance in the universe, and I also avoid paying for items above my magic price Big Grin

Sometimes it's hard to hold to that number. The psychology behind the low opening bid is to get you involved. For some people, once they've made a bid, their brain categorizes the item as "mine." And as the price rises , they respond with even higher bids, because "It's mine and you can't have it."

Always a good idea to check abebooks.com to see what the average copy is going for. That way you won't screw yourself as somebody did by bidding up a copy of The Little Beige Book of Nondescript Stories to $40 when it was still in print and available for $20. (I hope that was no one here.)

Just so. I got my copy of TLBBoNS from Shocklines for $20, after reading many favorable comments on this board about that service. Speaking of which, I can't say I read a more disturbing FPW story than "Please Don't Hurt Me." That one really crawled under my skin, and I'm sure how much was due to the style, but that's a really dark and twisted tale that I'd expect to see in Lansdale country, but surprised me here.

I agree! I've mentioned many times on many threads that the single most horrific sentence in all of FPW's works, IMO, is in that story. Bugs....yeewww!

I recommend pleasant.

I think another factor is "challenge." "Yeah? You got $28 to bid? =I= am =the man= and I bid $35! Fuckin' loser!" Seem to recall a wine auction with that kind of mentality in somebody's novel...

"Somebody's" novel? Smile Perhaps the wine auction in All the Rage?

I just got the first four Borderlands Press AC books (plus TLBBoNDS). They're beautiful, and they even all have the same number, which surprised me a bit. But I do have one question, which has probably been asked and answered long ago: when will the slipcase be available? (Perhaps this info belongs in the FAQ? Or perhaps it's already there and I just missed it.)
