Salem's Lot, It, Pet Cemetary, Sometimes They Come Back, Firestarter, etc...

Mediocre at best IMHO.

I liked It (except for the giant spider at the end). The first Salem's Lot (with David Soul) was better than the second (with Rob Lowe), but both versions paled in comparison to the book. The worst cinematic offense perpetrated on Stephen King, in my opinion, was Dreamcatcher.

When it comes to video adaptations of their work, Stephen King has been very fortunate, Dean Koontz much less so, and Paul, well "disastrous" comes to mind. It is truly ironic that the most talented, but least appreciated, of the big three always seems to get the shaft. Still, Paul has combined a successful professional career with a successful literary career, with which neither Stephen nor Dean can compete.

I don't know about making all the AC/RJ books into movies. I really doubt movies would be able to do the books justice. There have been countless movie adaptations of books that I've been disappointed by, and only a couple I've liked. I'm looking forward to the RJ movie, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

In my view, it's extremely rare for a movie to ever do the novel justice. The best I remember are; WHEN EIGHT BELLS TOLL by Alistair MacLean; SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, and PERSUASION, by Jane Austin.

The best, in my view, were PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, THE BOURNE IDENTITY, and A TOWN LIKE ALICE. But these were all TV mini-series' and were all about five hours long. I don't think one can really do a book justice in less time than that. Especially a GOOD book.

Shawshank Redemption....★★★★★(Excellent! I like both of movie and novel.)

Stand By Me....★★★★★(This is memorable movie. Original title is "The Body". But, this title "Stand By Me" is very fit to movie. I like theme song by Ben E. King.)

Salem's Lot....★★★(I prefer novel. TV drama version is.....David Soul is good, but the vampire's make-up is BAD.)

IT....★★★★(Novel is great stuff. One of the best 5. TV mini-series is....Tim Curry is awesome. Creepy and scary.)

Pet Cemetary....★★★★★(Very very very scary movie. Also, very very sad movie.)

Sometimes they come back....★★★★★(I like this movie. Look like a "Stand by me" meets "IT".)

Firestarter....★★★(Drew Barrymore, Heather Locklear, Martin Sheen, Geroge C. Scott....great actors and actress. Also I like movie, except the last scene. I prefer novel version's finale.)

Sorry, Tyson. I disagree with you. I don't like The Lawnmower Man(Japanese title is Virtual Wars). That was awful! I don't want to see it again!

Also, I don't like Maximum Overdrive.

See, now, I dislike Kubrick's The Shining.

However, I love The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile.

I think the Shining is one of the best horror movies ever made, if you totally forget about the book. Jack Nicholson was brilliant in it, although not true to the character until he went crazy. They made that miniseries a while back with the guy from Wings (steven weber), and it was actually really good. They followed the book exactly (they had six hours to do it), and Weber was really good, though I liked the original Danny better.

The best and worst Steven King adaptation is Cujo, because the atmosphere and the actors go along with the book perfectly. Of course they screwed up the ending by making it happy. If you've read it, you know exactly what I mean.

I'm looking forward to the DVD of The Keep, and FPW's commentary to go along with it. I bet it'll be hilarious.

I think the best movie adaptation of Stephen King's work is David Cronenberg's "The Dead Zone," (1983) starring Christopher Walken. Excellent!

I know what you mean, look at all the Dean Koontz adaptions, but I think that with the right writer and director it could be a great series.

persuasion gave me nightmares for years. i dreamed i was in a frilly dress having the most empty conversations ever with men in tights with wierd sideburns and jockey caps. being male i've never worn a dress, but i've instinctually avoided formal parties and dances ever since.
