Next summer, Spielberg + Cruise coming again!

But! but but but.....actually, I'm a little nervous about this. H.G. Wells is one of my favorite authors, and I really like "War of the worlds". Original movie is classic now, but it's still good to me. When I saw remake version of Time Machine, I got shock! Opening sequences were terrible.

I hope Spielberg and Cruise version would be successful.

You'd think such a simple, straight-ahead story as WotW would be difficult to screw up. But never say never. I have a soft place in my head for the George Pal version, but I hope the remake uses the tripod war machines instead of saucers. (For a good look at the tripods, see League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol 2 which takes a different perspective on the story.)

They're filming crowd scenes in Albany this week. (I spoke to one of 1000 extras.)

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol 2 !? Wow! That's fantastic! I like that first film. I'm looking forward to it from now. Smile

My husband told me about this. He loves the War of the Worlds, but isn't worried about a lousy movie. He loves movies and is very forgiving. Kenji, I was also very disappointed in the most recent Time Machine movie. I thought it different from the book at some very critical points. As far as the other movie....we'll see

The premse of the martian attack seen through the eyes of one family sounds interesting, but I don't know if it'll be faithfull to H.G. Wells' book( I read it a while ago and don't remember much, its a goal of mine to reread it before th movie)

I've seen it. It's called Signs.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. ... The piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

I also recommend taking a look at a comic called "Scarlet Traces" that picks up the story years later in England where someone is using the Martian technology for their own purposes. They just released it as a graphic novel here in the States.

Anybody remember the Gold Key comic version of WOTW? Came out around '59, '60? And call me a softy, but I puddle up remembering how HMS Thunder Child took the fight to the enemy. Even with every man aboard her dead from the black smoke, even red-hot and melting from the heat rays, she took another Martian tripod down...

Remember the rock album WOTW? Richard Burton did the narration. It was great! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...102-921520
