Almost done with Fatal Error. And, as Maxwell Smart would have it, llllllloving it.

This should be a fairly
S P O I L E R -free post, but there may be enough hints of what's to come to consider it worth the warning.

On page 248 of the Gauntlet HC, Jack, Weezy, Veilleur, and the Lady are discussing strategies, tactics, the Otherness, the q'qr, and of course, the One. It just sort of jumped out at me, because sometimes when I'm alone, I'll read books aloud (helps me sink more deeply into them); but, whenever I see a certain R-fellow's name, I don't say out out loud. That said...there's a time Jack is talking:
" 'The big question, as I see it, is why is a baby q'qr so important? I mean, important enough for Rasalom himself to keep--"
Whoah-whoah-whoah, time out! Jack? Aw, come on! :mad2: Since when does HE get to drop the One's name without...consequence? (And since nobody in the room stopped him from saying it, my guess is this truly was just an error...and hopefully not a Fatal one.)

Just something to keep in mind for the trade edits, FP. (Nice as always to see you again, by the way!)

Nice catch, Barry! I missed that completely.

And I was sure I would have been the...umpteenth person to have noticed. Well, even if I'm the third or seventh, glad I could help!

Hmmm... maybe at that meeting, it was actually Rasalom =disguised= as Jack, seeing what his enemies were up to...

I thought that was edited out.

I don't know, the way I looked at it was, Glaeken told Jack that the R guy knew he had aged and that now Jack could act against him. (Without the book in my hands, I'm just paraphrasing here.) It didn't matter any more, Rasalom was aware.

Brian's right -- if that took place after R's final return from NC (after Reprisal), then it no longer matters.

But this was BEFORE that final meeting, after the post-NC discovery. This is just during one of their final meetings, before the Interweb attack, the Lady's...reaction, etc. Just something that stood out to me quite a bit.

(Finished the book, by the way - thanks again! Waiting with bated breath!)

There is another thing I've noticed as well in the last 2 or 3 books. Jack seems to not care if he says Rasalom's name. Almost as if he wants the confrontation, sooner rather than later, as if a dare.
