I haven't seen any of the extras but I have heard a lot of what followed actual events and characters being based off real people(some of which are also in the show) The most interesting I thought was their inspiration for Omar.

On a side note but also related, David Simon(I think thats his name) the creator of The Wire and the author of the book I believe it was loosely based off of has a new show coming to HBO called Treme that looks very promising. Not to mention its made by the same guy so I will definitely be watching.

David Simon is correct. He was a writer for The Baltimore Sun and what we see in The Wire was essentially his territory. Ed Burns, the co-creator, was a Baltimore cop and it was his beat.

I did watch their next collaboration, Generation Kill about the first Rangers to see combat in Iraq but I didn't like it nearly as well.

Do you know what Treme is about? I know Treme is a neighborhood in New Orleans that has produced a lot of musicians and would be psyched if that had something to do with it.

And now you gotta watch it again just for the extras.

I have 0 clue what Treme is about, but I will tune in on the strength of The Wire alone.

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

It seems like music will be a part of it(hopefully they'll get Trombone Shorty to play)but not the sole focus.

From a LONG interview I read with Simon the show seemed to be centralized around the town and in it's core be about musicians around the town and the city dealing with post katrina and modern day workforce. Or at least that's how I understood it. I never watched his NBC show he did but from early buzz of the pilot they compare it to that a lot. They also say it compares to the wire a lot too as it feels like the writers just drop you in this other culture and then sort of let you catch up. But early buzz for it has been great.

I need to stay away from Wikipedia. I can't help myself and now I've found out something in advance. Let's just say I know what happens at the end of Omar and Brother Mouzone's partnership in season 3. I even had a dream about The Wire last night.

Yeah I would definitely stay away from any kind of spoiler content. I made the mistake of having something pretty big ruined for me in the last season.

That's a bummer. Even though you know its coming(it becomes obvious a few episodes before it actually happens), it was still a shock.

How is the second season going? I started watching the first season again myself and it is very interesting seeing it again for the second time and knowing all the characters off the bat, interesting to see how much has changed over the seasons.

Scott Miller Wrote:I love spotting them in other things as well. Chris was in The Taking Of Pelham 123 and I've seen Stringer and Lester in several things but never as a lead. I just saw Rawls in a western, Carcetti was the villian in Blackout. Of course, McNulty has been in a few things as has Burrell and I've seen Daniels in a couple of shows.

I just watched an excellent political thriller called Endgame and Lester, Clarke Peters, is outstanding as Nelson Mandela. The movie is about the ending of apartheid and all the political machinations that went along with its dissolution.
