Personally, I never did like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, or The Unforgiven, but Bloodwork was pretty good. And so were The Outlaw Josie Wales and Pale Rider.

Don't know, Ken, Frags of our Fathers might be better. :p

One of my favorites is High Plains Drifter - the ultimate revenge movie.

Sadly, it just might.

The impression I still have is that it was good, but it's been so long since I saw it, I don't remember what it was about.

Iwo Jima is still something of a sore spot with me. Although he wasn't on the island when it was raised, my father did see the flag, as his Regiment -- which was held in ready reserve -- landed on the island the next day. February 24th.

In nineteen days of combat, his Regiment suffered 2,089 casualties -- out of around 3,000 men.

There were a little over 6,800 Americans killed on that island, 17,000 Americans wounded -- dad was one of the wounded -- and over 20,000 Japanese dead.

A horrendous toll!

Bloodwork was probably fine if you weren't a Michael Connelly fan and had already read the novel. As much as I like Clint Eastwood, he did not "fit" that character and novel.

For guys, "Unforgiven" probably Eastwood's best movie as an actor/director. "The Outlaw Josey Wales" is probably up there pretty high, too. As just an actor, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" was not one of my favorite movies, either, though it had some fine parts.

I certainly don't agree with the order of the top ten Eastwood movies as appears earlier in the thread. I don't know how they were ranked and would certainly have ranked them differently.

You never liked "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"? Oooooh......

I like that movie, especially, three men's last showdown scene. That was cool.

I liked The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Also, Two Mules for Sister Sara and the Dirty Harry movies. "Go ahead, make my day..."

I hadn't read the novel, and I'm sure you're right about him not fitting the character in the book. I'm almost invariably disappointed in movies that have been made from books I enjoyed.

Of the three Sergio Leone movies Clint Eastwood starred in, I like A Fistfull of Dollars best. Two Mules for Sister Sara was pretty good too, and so were the Dirty Harry series.

It's funny. I criticize movies when they make unrealistic goofs, but when they're too close to reality -- as was The Unforgiven -- I don't like them either.

Go figure. Rolleyes

I haven't read the novel. So I can't say anything about it. How's difference between them? Age? Personality? Looks...?

Don't get me wrong, Auskar. Wink My top ten is not about movie's best-degree. It's just my favorite-degree rank. Of course, his movies are all best, except "The Bridge of Madison County". I haven't seen "The Bridge of Madison County" yet, and I won't see it.

Kenji, you didn't say if it was an "official" top ten or your top ten so a misunderstanding is . . . um . . . understandable. Wink

We all have different tastes, which is one of the things that makes this subject so interesting.

It's been awhile since I read the novel and/or saw the movie, but what I CAN say is that Eastwood's day of playing a leading man who gets the girl are long past. I like Eastwood, always have. He plays a fine tough guy, but he is the tough guy that rides off into the sunset and leaves the girl. If you think about it, any movie where Eastwood gets the girl is either a bad movie in general or has a bad ending.

I personally disliked Bridges of Madison County because I felt it was a book/movie that celebrated adultery.

When I saw The Unforgiven, I was so shocked I inhaled a piece of popcorn. By 2:00 AM I had pneumonia. It wasn't fun.

I did like Eastwood's spaghetti westerns. When they first came out, most Western's were made with clean-cut John Wayne type heros. Eastwood was the perfect anti-hero.
