I REALLY liked it a lot. It had some great scenes and the cast of characters seem pretty good. The pilot throws a lot at you, but it is well done and left me excited for the the next one.

It's about regular people who start gaining super powers. Kind of has that 'Lost' type of vibe to it. You just have to see it for yourself.

I'm just glad to see a new show that isn't

A. A reality show.

B. A lawyer show.

C. A doctor/hospital show.

D. A cop/forensic show.

C) A forensic/hospital reality show

They passed an old woman who was just opening the door of a brown Cadillac. An old man was already sitting in the passenger seat. The car had a personalized plate with the letters “J-U-S-P-R-A-Y”.
“That stuff work?” Israel said to her.
“‘Scuse me?” the little old woman said, clutching her keys.
“The spray. Does it keep them away?”
“Keep who away?” She looked confused.
“I gotcha.” Israel gave her a conspiratorial wink.

I thought the writing was kinda weak through most scenes, but still...the show has potential. I'll keep watching in hopes that the weak writing is more a sign of first episode-itis.

I'm with you on all counts.

SMITH was pretty decent. It's a heist show. Main character is a career criminal.

M. Night Shamalamalama said that his favorite part of the Spiderman movie was when Peter Parker was discovering his powers and dealing with them. He tried, and succeeded IMHO, in capturing that portion of the superhero saga in his movie "Unbreakable". I think the first episode of Heroes captured that part only to a certain extent and only with a few characters. The indestructable Cheerleader's character was well-developed (no pun intended), as was the guy who thought he could fly (can fly?), but the others were fastforwarded, such as the Japanese Time Bender. And next week we still have more characters to be developed. I'm still excited at the prospects of this show and can't wait to see what the Super Villains can do, but I hope they don't rush things. These are the "origin" episodes we are watching, and these are my favorite parts as well.

Agreed. I loved Unbreakable.

I agree and disagree.

I liked the cheerleader’s storyline. They left some subtlety to it. Am I the only one who picked up on the possibility that her father is abusing her and she’s trying to kill herself?

I liked the stripper’s storyline. The “whore with a heart of gold” is kind of cliché, but I thought the actress pulled it off, and again, the show gave us just enough to keep me interested without spilling everything.

Flyboy didn’t do it for me. I like the actor a lot (although I kept looking for Rory Gilmore), but the writing just wasn’t there for him. “I’m having dreams I can fly. I think I can fly!” Puh-leeze. I’ve dreamed I can fly lots of times. I’ve had very vivid, recurring dreams. It doesn’t make me think I can pull any of it off. Him saying that when he stepped out of bed that he levitated for a split second…okay. That’s good evidence, but it’s piss-poor storytelling. Show me. Don’t tell me! Let’s see it! And all of his talk of “I feel like I’m destined for greatness” is just spoon-feeding the audience. I didn’t buy it.

I like the actor playing Mohinder a lot, but his constant pontificating got on my nerves, and I thought his character had some motivation issues.

Junkie artist might prove interesting. We don’t know enough about him yet.

The bad guy was a bit too Cancer Man/Mr. Smith for me, but maybe they’ll take it in different directions. I sure hope so.

The pilot was originally written and conceived as 2-hours, but it was cut in half. That may be the source of a lot of my problems. I hope so.

I think the show has loads of potential. I just hope the writing is able to pull it off. So far, I guess I’d say I’m disappointed but hopeful.

I agree, though once I got used to the pace of storytelling I enjoyed the episode more. I will watch it again next week. This could be a good show.

I hope so, too. After all, most of Unbreakable was devoted to one character learning to deal with his powers. It may take several episodes to get all these characters over the hump.

While Flyboy may have writing problems right now, his brother may turn out to be much more intriguing. We got a sense of his ego and selfishness, yet he did fly when his younger brother was in danger. Is there heroism hiding in his character, or will he turn out to be one of the Super Villains in the end?

I loved the scenes with Hiro, and I guess my casual study of Japanese is sinking in deeper than I thought it was, since I understood about 10% of the dialog without reference to the subtitles. But, Hiro and his buddy really came across like characters out of some comedic anime, like Urusei Yatsura. I wonder what Kenji will think of those portrayals when he finally gets to see this? The sentiments expressed by Hiro's buddy, when he was saying that all Japanese are supposed to be the same, certainly seemed like an authentic Japanese attitude to me, though perhaps it isn't as prevalent now as it was years ago.

I did sense a sort of Superman/Lex Luthor relationship being set up there, but it's really too early to tell.

I really wanted to hate this show since I'm getting tired of the entire superhero genre right now which is why it took me a full week to watch the pilot. Dammit! Why did it have to be good?

I like how everything is building up. The characters are interesting and there are some interesting backstories that are being hinted to but have not been resolved. It's good they're not rushing it.

The only major problem I had, and I actually cringed, was one bit of dialogue towards the end.

*NOT REALLY A SPOILER BUT A WARNING NONE THE LESS*

They walk into the painters apartment and they see a syringe on the floor. We already know the painter is a drug addict so we can safely say it's heroine, yet the writers felt the audience too stupid to pick up on this fact so when they find the body one character has to say (mostly to herself), "Oh God, he overdosed" which she says AGAIN 10-sec later when she calls 911.

Minor nitpicky stuff but still...

Anyhow, it has me interested enough to watch tonights episode. New shows I watched but will no longer be tuning into: Jericho, 6-Degrees and Brothers & Sisters.

Jericho is one of those shows that if it's on and I've got nothing better to do, I'll watch, but I'm not going to make a point of tuning in.

Haven't seen 6 Degrees.

Brothers & Sisters. Man, what a great cast. But what a BORING show. Zzzzz.
