Scott Hajek Wrote:The main advantage to producing a game for consoles versus the PC is the level playing field of hardware. It's tough to make a game for a near infinite number of PC variations versus three different consoles.Actually there is only one kind of PC (excluding Macintosh) with different levels of hardware which isn't a problem if you write the program for anything short of the LEADING-EDGE hardware (video and sound card mainly). However, each console game requires different programming as each is independent of the others and therefore requires exclusive code. Therefore, I would think that PC would be a much more inclusive platform and easier to program for.
I used to think that the PC was the way to go, but it depends on the type of game. For RTS and FPS games, the PC is better, but for adventure games like the Zelda-type games, the console is easier with limited controls... Fighting games are also better on consoles.
I rethought my stand on which console I would prefer. I don't care. All that matters is if the game is fun, faithful to the source material and not rushed to the stores before it is done (Enter the Matrix, anyone?)

As for controls, I can only give examples of the games I have played. In my experience I found the controls for the "shooter" game Tom Clancy's Roque Spear for the PC to be infinitely easier than the controls for the newest James Bond game for PS2. That is just my opinion.

A game released on a console has a better chance of making a lot of money than a PC title.

The bravery of fighting men (and now women) who believe in their cause is limitless. When faced with pure evil like the forces of the Otherness, and when defending their loved ones from that evil, the military forces of every country would fight to the death, as would the militia in those countries where one existed. Just my opinion.

btw Mike, I love the image of leathering up, arming up, kissing the lady goodbye and just plain doing what person's gotta do...
