Actually there is only one kind of PC (excluding Macintosh) with different levels of hardware which isn't a problem if you write the program for anything short of the LEADING-EDGE hardware (video and sound card mainly). However, each console game requires different programming as each is independent of the others and therefore requires exclusive code. Therefore, I would think that PC would be a much more inclusive platform and easier to program for.

As for controls, I can only give examples of the games I have played. In my experience I found the controls for the "shooter" game Tom Clancy's Roque Spear for the PC to be infinitely easier than the controls for the newest James Bond game for PS2. That is just my opinion.

But, the programming for the PC requires sound, video, memory, processor speed, input and data storage considerations. With the continual evolution of the PC and the capabilities of each new generation, the PC is a moving target. With Microsoft and their new XBOX programming standard, it will become easier to write for PC and XBOX. But, I am only stating some of the information I've read in gaming mags and websites.

Regarding controls: I agree, PC is easier for more complex control schemes like in a Rogue Spear or other type, but a well done control scheme for a console can be like second nature.

Also, console software is easier to copy-protect (i.e. GameCube proprietary mini-disc) and can control piracy a bit easier than PC.

Actually, the most important factor really is simply this:

A game released on a console has a better chance of making a lot of money than a PC title.

This is the very truth of it. PC games are a tough sell unless there is a lot of hype for the game before it is released. Games based off movies seldom do well in the PC market, but seem to do quite well on consoles.

As far as controls go, it depends on the type of game for me. In my opinion, first person type shooter games play much better on PC's along with real-time/turn based strategy type games such as Age of Empires and the Civilization series. Action/Adventure and sports based games play much better for me on a console.

Considering the history of Kojima-san, I would say the game he envisions is the Action/Adventure type game. He also seems very much console based. If it were to be a PC game, it would more than likely cross over from console to PC, which would very much mean a PS2/3 release along with Gamecube and possibly X-box (I haven't seen many of his games on the X-box yet, but that could change).

I might have been influenced by the subconscious recollection of the Duke there...but there's a =reason= why cultural archetypes are what they are. They express a truth about the culture and its members.
