I know there are a lot of Star Wars fans on this site. Some of you may have heard that Lucas is looking into doing a television show after the third film is released next May. The series is supposedly going to take place after Episode VI.

Though this news may be new to a lot of you. Take it with a grain of salt but if true I'm curious what everyone's thoughts are on it.

I guess the fans are very excited about Kevin's involvement on the TV show. The reaction up here has also been very good. There has been some questioning lately trying to find out who your source was but they just can't keep this under wraps.

There has been plenty of plans for future re-assignments and plenty of moving around inside the "Ranch", they have already started making room for the offices that will handle the TV show. I am not quite sure if the bulk of the work will be done here or if they will be done over at the Presidio. Smith is definitely the top choice and I have been told that he has been staying very busy with negotiations before he starts up with his Clerks sequel. There was some up here that claim that he was spotted up here a few weeks ago, I didn't see him.

The TV show will go full speed as soon as Sith is released by that time Kevin should be done with most of his work on Clerks 2. Your scooper that sent you the info on Hamill is right, they are hoping to get Mark to come back and be like the mentor of the new Jedi Knights or something. I am trying to pin point the time frame and if they are expected to keep the EU continuity. I personally doubt that EU storylines will be explored, they might be mentioned but from what I understand Kevin and George want fresh new storylines. I was told about a possible twist to show, even though it's to take place after Return of the Jedi a few ILMers have been talking about showing some flashback sequences via Holocron- type technology.

I was also told that the public should expect an official announcement within a few months. Part of not releasing any information on the show is because News Corp. [20th Century Fox] is hoping to be involved with the distribution of the show. There has also been some rumblings coming from the Sci-Fi Channel hoping to land the domestic distribution but I doubt that will happen. One other thing, Sith is turning up nicely.

For those still curious, to add to Marc's statements, George Lucas allowed and oversaw a tightly controlled expansion of the overall Star Wars universe. Unlike the hundreds of Star Trek novels written over the years (which if considered realistically would require the characters to have been taking part in starfleet missions for every day of their extended lives), Lucas's Star Wars Universe is kept to a strict timeline.

And the first stricture he put upon all the people involved, was that they could not write anything whatsoever that took place during the thirty years preceding Episode Four: A New Hope. As you've now surmised, this was so that he could conceive and create the prequel trilogy of The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith.

As he did allow for books and comic books and audioplays to be created that picked up, literally, the day after the events of Return of the Jedi, it has always been supposed that Lucas never ever intended to do a third trilogy.

What makes the Star Wars EU so appealing to many fans is the fact that Lucas has a whole team of folks overseeing the continuity of it all, so that, with the exception of the novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye, no storyline, idea, concept, character, or event in any one form, conflicts with another.

Think about the fantastic continuity that Paul has created in The Adversary Cycle, and then multiply that by a power of ten. Thats the Star Wars EU.

And no, as unbelievable as it may sound, I'm not all that much of a Star Wars fan.

Hi there. Most interesting !!!!! Yes the Star Wars EU !!! I confess, I'm not a huge Star Wars fan, first three films were cool as I grew up watching them so to speak, but the last two were pretty dire, however, I digress. What piqued my interest in this posting was a long forgotten memory. Allow me to elaborate. Back in 1978, as a pimply adolescent, my younger brother was captivated by the Star Wars phenomenon, so, as I was 'working', well, I had a paper-round, and could afford the stamps, I wrote to George Lucas, care of the studio, asking him for an autograph for my brother, and asking him if there was going to be a follow-up film etc etc etc. Never expecting a reply, one duly arrived. George was a very kind gent indeed. Sent my letter back with his replies written by my questions, and did indeed autograph it for my little brother. Wow ! I think the letter even got read out at a school assembly.........Anyways, I replied to him, thanking him for his reply (as you do), asked a few more questions, and he then expounded on the fact of his plots for the remaining eight of the nine film sequence he had planned etc etc, and if the films 'flopped' as sequels were wont (want??) to do, maybe he'd approach the Tv networks about them............see where I am coming from here ? Well, it's nice to hear that it may happen, and yes, my little brother (who's not so little anymore) will probably be over the moon at this news (if it ever comes to pass)......Me, I prefer Star Trek. Nice news, if true! I'd love to see Kevin Smith involved. I had heard earlier rumors that a TV show might take place between Episodes III and IV, but I'd be happy with just about anything they want to do. It'd be fun to see Mark Hamill as Luke again.

I'm a huge fan of Star Wars, though not so much the Expanded Universe stuff. I liked Timothy Zahn's books, but the few others I picked up pretty quickly lost my interest.

Kevin, speaking as a Star Wars fan... you have GOT to find those letters and scan them! Fans would be astonished at such items! I would love to see them myself. The people over at theforce.net and various other fansites would post the scans in a heartbeat, I'm sure. As for what it would got for on eBay, I've little idea, but I bet it would be quite a bit.

After reading your post, I'm sorry to say it never occurred to me to write to George Lucas! I did get to meet him at the Episode II premiere, though. Nice, but very quiet and reserved.

Kev Smith writing a Star Wars television show? Hmmm. It just might work. Maybe.

If nothing else, it could retain the episodic cliff-hanger feel of the science fiction serials( Flash Gordon and the like) which inspired the holy trilogy. And Smith is an ace writer.
