So I just finished reading the book, and then I find the movie on Hulu. Cool intro with FPW, but they sure butchered the story.

Nice find!

Loved FPW playing the doctor in the intro.

Wow, real shame about the acting and production quality. The first church scene in the film was nothing like I envisioned when I read the book.

Who would have thought that the best actor in the film turns out to be FPW?

Not to mention what happened to half the main characters?

I suppose like a small detail about the trees in a scene, they were considered unnecessary.

Yeah, but it's still an FPW book. I'll watch it again because of that.

OK, I went back a read an old post. Apparently it's based off the original short story?

Correct. And returning to the story got me thinking about taking it further. I might not have written the novel if not for that (bad) movie. But I do like my cameo.

Yeah, you almost sound like an actual medical doctor...or something.

LOL...I don't see how a sequel would work out. I think Paul meant that the movie was based on the original short story, and after the movie came out it made him want to revisit the world of MM and he built the short story into the novel.

I thought the movie was actually a film school project or something, hence the production values seriously lacking. It was a bunch of friends making a movie and that is exactly what it felt like when I tried once again to watch it on Netflix last week. I got to the naked lady writhing on the altar.
