I've been puzzling over if there are two or three versions of "The Tomb." I have the Tor 2006 edition that contains the version of the story first released by the Borderlands Press in 2004. The author's FAQ says he revised the text in 1998. The puzzle is that the Amazon Look Inside for the Tor 2008 edition has a 1984 copyright date and the text that's visible is very much set in 1984 with VCRs, phone booths, "answerphones," etc. Does this book contain the 1998 revised text or did that show up somewhere else?

First off, I suppose they should be called "versions." I did a minor clean up for the 1998 version, a deep cleaning for the Borderlands edition. Don't trust "look inside." I'm sure they use their old scans.

As for US editions, the first was Whispers, the 1st pb was Berkley which then moved it over to its Jove imprint. Then there have been 3 or 4 Tor editions (I've lost count)

mkz, the "Look Inside" at that link is definitely the 1998 text.

BTW, here's an easy way to differentiate between the versions:

On the first page of the 1984 version, Jack had fallen asleep watching his Betamax. In the 1998 version, it was his VCR. In the 2004 version, it was his DVD player.
